Throughout the season, we see Jason’s growing attachment to the Box becoming more and more problematic, affecting not just himself but also Daniela and Charlie. His family is left disturbed by his obsession and how it’s negatively affecting them. Thus, after living their lives separately and facing different situations, Jason finally overcomes his obsession with the Box and decides to shut it down to save everyone the heartache of destroying their sanity.

Clair, who has seen firsthand what the Box can do, agrees to his plan, eventually to be joined by Ryan and Amanda. They piece together that the Box in Clair’s reality is the original box that is powering all the other ones and letting these glitch realities exist. While Blair and Jason try to shut the original box down, Amanda and Ryan get a version of Leighton’s help to find a cure for a dangerous plague that is killing hundreds in their universe.

Charlie went into the box without telling anyone to find a version of himself in another universe. Daniela, after learning of this, followed him into the box to bring her son back. Unfortunately for them both, they never learned of Jason’s plans and, when they were about to come back, they were unable to get out of the box. It’s a shocking turn of events that was totally unprecedented for everyone involved.

In the end, Jason, having successfully closed everything down and hoping for a fresh start, burns all of his research into the Box to hopefully never use it again. In a rather sad and shocking turn of events, it is revealed that he sees Daniela’s note a little too late – she had informed him about going after Charlie in the box! The ending showcases Daniela entering some universe, although we don’t know which one; considering that the Box in Blair’s universe is the original one, she might just find herself facing some really angry people at the other end.
