Crimes Aaj Kal hosted by Vikrant Massey and directed by Subbu Iyer, like Anup Soni’s Crime Patrol, dives into the criminal world where teenagers and young adults become culprits for various reasons. The Amazon miniTV series dropped the first three episodes on March 24, 2023, and every Friday, it will premiere one episode.
The series focus on real crime incidents and, with the help of actors, shows the chilling cases visually to the audience. With gore and violence packed, Crimes Aaj Kal focuses on bringing to light the backstory of the culprits and where things went wrong. The official description of the series reads,
The series is a host driven anthology- featuring cases- of crimes- where in the youth- teenage to young adults are involved. Cases where the youth- whether it be victim or the perpetrator- have entered into a zone of “Dead End” by giving wings to their anger, rage, emotions of jealousy, greed- with the intention of instant gratification. The series is inspired by true incidents.
Produced by Vipul D. Shah’s Optymstix Media, each episode features a different crime story where the truth will be unraveled only at the end. – Crimes Aaj Kal Review Contains No Spoilers –
The first episode starts right away with the main character looking at a bike dreamily and plotting a plan to get that. After that, for the next 40 minutes, the story will lead us to figure out who killed who and why the crime occurred. Once the bewilderment comes, Vikrant comes on-screen and gives an ending message based on the sad event of the crime story.
As said, every episode is based on a different true story, and what’s surprising is that if you notice the dates they give, all the events have occurred in 2023. Meaning we are witnessing crime stories that happened not long ago, but sadly they weren’t spoken about much. Hence Crimes Aaj Kal sheds light onto those lost stories that actually need recognition and deeper insight.

We are introduced to various disturbing events aroused by mobile addiction, stalking, telemarketing, fake kidnapping, betrayals, and such. While at the beginning of the episode, we might be shown partial truth, it is only at the end we will get a full understanding of why the offender carried out the offence and what could have been done to avoid it.

Different Perspective On Crimes Are Shown
If we had only read the news, which usually will be half-baked, we’d dislike the culprit and feel terrible for the loss. However, in this series, the creator has tried to show the entire story with actors so that audience can figure out where things go wrong. It aids us in analysing the evil sides of games, teenage anger, catfishing, and such issues.

Vikrant’s Hosting Method is Really Good
It’s pretty nice to see Vikrant Massey sharing his insight as well regarding the crime of the episode. In the second episode, in the intro pallet, Vikrant constantly picks up cold calls asking him to buy a credit card. While in the end, he once again gets a cold call and firmly rejects it (you’ll understand why he does that when you watch episode 2).
Vikrant’s hosting method conveys another person’s opinion on the crime, which is intriguing. He is straight to the point in a creative way rather than any mysterious gestures that might have looked dramatic. Rather than blaming the offender/s of the episode, Vikrant gives a general statement on the root cause of the crimes, which is neat and non-biased.

Crimes Aaj Kal: Stream or Skip?
The Amazon miniTV series is worth the stream because the stories are true, the actors have carried the scenes precisely, the host gives a good intro and outro, and the series presents us with stories that didn’t get much attention. It also teaches the audience how cruel the world is and how daily techs like social media and mobile phones can be hazardous.
If you haven’t watched Crimes Aaj Kal, it is streaming now on Amazon MiniTV.
