6 Chilling Billie Eilish Songs Every Person in Their 20s Must Listen to: Bad Guy, Bury a Friend and More

This artist has been on every chart imaginable, and that is because she makes music that everyone finds relatable. However, the following chilling Billie Eilish songs are fear-inducing because of the images they explore and the kind of feeling they inspire in people. Apart from this, the music videos are also so gritty that they make us feel like something is going wrong at that very second. Whether it be writing a song from the perspective of a monster under the bed or about using drugs like lotion, she has made it impossible for us to miss her music.

Chilling Billie Eilish Songs

Bad Guy

Billie makes it clear that if she is in a relationship, then she is in charge. This is not the first time we see her employ a very masculine take in her music. She has often written about becoming the villain and becoming the figure that inspires fear. However, this time she makes it clear that she is the bad guy, the kind that mothers warn girls against, the ones fathers absolutely cannot stand. She is here to emulate his behaviour but also inspires fear in the person.

Bury a Friend

Written from the perspective of a monster under the bed, this song is about a kid who is not scared of them. It is even more frightening that the monster has been asking why the kid isn’t scared because they have seen things worse than this monster, which is actually worthy of befriending than being scared. Meanwhile, there are sound bytes from an easy bake oven and a dental instrument because Eilish enjoys adding features to the music that make it more absurd.

All the Good Girls Go to Hell

This song is about the environment, knowing that the way we pollute the earth is laughing in the face of the maker, so all the good girls go to hell because the only person who can impart justice now is the devil, and that is exactly what this song tries to communicate. It comes from a deep, deep place of female rage, which is such an interesting take because it is noted that most people don’t care for the environment because the earth is always personified as a woman (a nice tidbit for you all out there). So this is female rage at its finest.

You Should See Me in a Crown

Once again, the god complex does not come to an end. This song is about how this person feels like royalty enough to do whatever they want, even including bringing people down to their knees, running this place on their own, and most of all, being in control enough over themselves not to lose their minds. However, they don’t mind seeing blood on marble, watching bodies drop and staring Death in the face of everything going wrong.

Not My Responsibility

While this is not necessarily a song, it is a spoken-word ballad that focuses on the way our bodies are perceived. Women generally feel that their bodies are always commodities to be consumed. This song talks about that but includes soft, uncomfortable whispers, and vulnerable explorations of why certain things work in the world. However, the thing that really makes the pin drop here is the last line that comes from the title and takes over the meaning of the song. It is completely deviant from the rest of the album and devoid of any instrumental, which makes it even more personal.

Oxytocin

This neurohormone is about love and lust, so that is what the artist sings about in this song. She talks about how using this person is just for this chemical balance and nothing else, she doesn’t want to get involved, but she does want control, and that is what does it for her. Exerting power and feeling confident in it are the general themes in her song. When she employs repetitive sounds and absurd sound bytes from different places, it gives her music an addition most become uncomfortable listening to.

All of the songs above have some connection with being in your 20s. Whether it be finding love, lust, self-doubt, understanding pain, loss or trauma, Billie Eilish manages to make every song about the universal experience of being that age and still tasting the power of personal freedom. They are all available to stream on Spotify.
