While singers have always been able to express their talent in their field, there are examples like BLACKPINK Jennie, who have made it big in any kind of genre. After acting in the highly anticipated series The Idol, she has been catapulted into popular culture in a way like no other. Her performance and dance abilities were highly praised just after the first episode. Additionally, the intensity she brought to her scenes also made her show-stopping in the episode.
BLACKPINK Jennie and Other Singers Who Acted in Movies/TV Shows
Taehyung – Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth
While the artist has the capability of being the most edgy member of the band, this series showcased his more innocent side as he played the role of a warrior in the series. The child-like innocence and the comedic relief his character brought to show the kind of range he has when it comes to acting. Avoiding all spoilers, it is also seen that he has the capability of bringing a different kind of depth to a character who is so fun-loving and unserious.
Ok Taec-yeon – Vincenzo
He already had to act in the series, but his American accent is the one that really took the cake. He has lived in the States for his education, but applying that knowledge to the series was absolutely brilliant. Additionally, his ability to switch between two kinds of demeanours but also keeping the essence of the character alive was brilliant. The show worked incredibly well because of the kind of conflict and resistance his character brought, even though he seems so innocent.
IU – Hotel Del Luna, Broker
Leading a Korean drama series is no small feat, but she managed to slay the genre completely. Most recently, too, she has been in critically acclaimed films like Broker, which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival last year. She has a talent for portraying different kinds of people, and with the drama, her talents also allow her to follow the arc of her character really well without mixing them up. Her singing talent is already known to many people, but her long-standing acting career has been criminally underrated.
Nick Jonas – Jumanji, Chaos Walking
One of the most prolific Jonas Brothers, this sibling has seen his fair share of film sets. From films for the OG Disney era to more serious ones in the current pop culture timeline. With Jumanji, he played a character that mostly roamed around and played, but his character in Chaos Walking was supposed to be a little more serious. It is unfortunate that the film didn’t do well at all because there were some insane cast members in this film.

Billie Eilish – Swarm
While some actors do a good job in critically acclaimed series, Eilish has proven that she has the talent to be a brilliant soundtrack writer and an actor. This just shows how she understands the visual medium well enough to excel in both formats well enough to win Academy Awards. Donald Glover’s creation and casting process proves wonderful for Eilish because she has been praised for her presence in the series as a soft-spoken, powerful and creepy character.
Lady Gaga – A Star Is Born, House of Gucci
Knowing the kind of depth of feeling she has, casting directors don’t shy away from including her in any kind of visual media and it wasn’t a mistake this time as well. Although, she had to play a singer in this film, which isn’t too far from her persona, however, in House of Gucci she had to play a pivotal character causing the domino effect in the family that is plagued with decadence, brilliance, murder and betrayal.
Harry Styles – Dunkirk, Eternals
Acting in a Nolan film is no small feat, and Styles has repeatedly proven his talent in doing something like this. He can play different kinds of characters, including the brother of the person who tried to wipe out half the universe. While his performance was heralded in this film, people had taken a completely different turn for his performance in Don’t Worry Darling, which managed to become a laughingstock in the film community following its release. Styles probably don’t act badly, but he does need a good director to make him shine.
Halle Bailey- The Little Mermaid
While most people were crying about the fact that she was not their Ariel, Bailey managed to prove them all wrong with her singing and acting skills within the movie. She has managed to break the Disney live-action curse and even brought the character to so many audiences across the globe. She will now be the staple character that most girls will look up to when they are asked about The Little Mermaid. Additionally, the writing and direction were good enough to make her talents shine in this role truly.

Justin Timberlake- The Social Network, Trolls
Timberlake brought Sexy back, but he also managed to give a critically acclaimed performance in this film. While he was present for a short time, his character traits and flaws exude from every particle as he embodies the trope and its extensions perfectly well. And if given a chance just to use his voice to build a character, then he does that extremely well, too, as seen in the Trolls film. He has the ability to make any film his own and carry characters in his own right, and the aforementioned films prove that.
Rina Sawayama – John Wick 4
This is her debut acting performance, but Sawayama not only managed to take people’s breath away with her fantastic stunt coordination and physical performance but also her presence on screen as the character Akira. While she initially turned down the role, she was called back by the directors, who took a deep dive into her work before approaching her to play the character of Akira. Sawayama has since shared that this experience gave her more confidence in her music as well as her capabilities as an actor.
