Chemical Music Video is the latest single from singer and songwriter Post Malone. It marks his first release of the year after almost a year of his fourth studio album Twelve Carat Tooth, which included tracks like Cooped Up (featuring Roddy Ricch), Wrapped Around Your Finger and many more which topped the charts.
The latest single however feels right on time bringing in the soft summer vibes. Compared to his last music style, the song is a bit more pop in the genre with some indie influences as well. Considering it’s the first track of the year, it looks like a good strategy to release a track that would certainly rank higher as it’s easy to listen to, before the singer puts out more sombre tunes, in line with his previous work.
The music video starts off with Malone sitting in his car, as the guitar & drum beats start playing. While he lights his cigarette, the lyrics suggest that he is singing about his addiction to ‘chemicals’ that make him feel okay. But once its effect starts wearing off, it doesn’t feel the same or as cheerful as he thought it would be.

At first, everything is shown through the window of his car but it soon pans right to follow the singer and we see him walking into the set. On the set, he is seen in front of a blue sky background and soon starts dancing. As everything is put in place, the camera frame changes to a main camera with a tight frame, focusing on the singer.
It might be implying how under the influence of the chemicals he is able to go on through his day-to-day, doing all the things he is supposed to do. For instance, shoot a music video for his song. However, the lyrics express a different side where he knows that his dependence on it has caused much trouble to his own personal relationships but he is not able to let go of it.
In the second half of the song, he reflects that every time he’s ready to make a change, something turns around & it just messes up his head. It’s a vicious cycle that he considers it as his fate now and accepts it. While the music of the song has a cheery & happy vibe, the lyrics are introspective and express a darker side.
Directed by Alfred Marroquin, as the video moves forward, the set changes from landscapes of Utah to thunderstorms and more. While it ends with Malone sitting on the top his car, reflecting on his day.
