Changing Planet Season 2 Review: A Unique Take on Climate Change

Changing Planet Season 2 Review: Changing Planet is a nature documentary that takes up an ambitious project of documenting change, both positive and negative, over the course of 7 years through 6 of the Earth’s most valuable ecosystems that keep it running. Narrator Dr M. Sanjayan, hosting from Australia, follows the conservationists, scientists and local communities from the first season to see the change in the second season of the 7-year project. Each episode of the series has a runtime of around 60 minutes.

Changing Planet Season 2 Review

Changing Planet, as the name suggests, follows the changes that our planet is going through thanks to human intervention and the effects of global warming. It’s a situation of our own making, but it’s also affecting the plants, animals and biodiversities of the Earth and changing it, pushing it towards a situation which may end pretty badly for those living on the planet.

Although the series follows these changes, it also follows the extraordinary and groundbreaking work of some amazing scientists and conservationists who, along with the local population of 6 of the world’s most valuable ecosystems, from the Arctic tundra to the Amazon rainforest, are fighting everyday to make a change in a more positive note.

changing planet season 2 review

Changing Planet season 2 follows these changes and the efforts that these people are putting in, following their progress and its effects on the ecosystem from the first season. The ambitious 7-year project is definitely a step in the right direction, and the visuals will make anyone who loves our planet take a second take. It’s no secret that the Earth is going through a crisis right now; devastating forest fires, rising Arctic temperatures, and the underwater corals dying are all direct effects of human greed. However, are we doing enough to stop these changes so that the Earth can just breathe for a minute?

Probably not. But the documentary puts forth extraordinary accounts of why these devastating changes are taking place and what we can do to stop them. In a very interesting segment of the show, it discusses how beavers help in stopping forest fires thanks to their dams! It’s such an interesting concept that many, like me, would find fascinating and realise that everything on our planet has its own purpose – we really can’t do away without anyone.

changing planet season 2

Changing Planet season 2 is mesmerising to watch, as is any nature documentary out there. And although I wasn’t a fan of the narration all too much, it’s the usual fare when it comes to documentaries such as these. That being said, Changing Planet season 2 does a fantastic job with its subject matter. Things that you might not have thought of previously, and the connection between a region’s animals with the environment, are really well done. The series makes an impact with its discussions on why animals cannot go extinct in regions and what role the smallest of animals play in conserving the local ecosystem.

It will also bring forth some stunning facts and figures that are discussed with accompanying visuals so that even those who have no idea about the ins and outs of environmental change can catch on pretty quickly. But the most interesting facet of the show is its pretty great storytelling – focusing on certain regions over the course of several years and following the change certain measures will bring about will interest many and makes viewers want to come back and follow the journey.

Their collaborations with the locals will also help you understand their culture and why local cultures evolve around the environment in an effort to save both humans and nature. Once you form an attachment with the animals, which you can’t help but not to, you are going to want to come back for more!

Either way, it’s a really interesting show that makes me curious to find out what happens next. The environment is on the last leg of its patience, and time is running out at this point. Let’s hope that documentaries such as this help to educate others on the dangers of climate change and how it affects not only human beings but also animals who live among us and subconsciously work to better it.

The efforts that scientists and locals are going through in order to keep the animals, plants and biodiversity from rapidly depleting are truly inspiring and will keep you hooked throughout the runtime.
