Good Omens Season 2 Ending Explained: What Happens to the Celestial Husbands in the End?

Good Omens Season 2 Ending Explained: Neil Gaiman and Douglas Mackinnon are back as showrunners and executive producers of the comedy-fantasy TV series, with Mackinnon acting as the director for all 6 new episodes. The highly anticipated second season sees David Tennant and Michael Sheen returning as Crowley and Aziraphale, respectively, and takes place after the incidents of last season. Others include Miranda Richardson, Jon Hamm, Nina Sosanya, Maggie Service and Shelley Conn. Each episode of the new season has a runtime of around 45 minutes.

The second season sees Aziraphale and Crowley back on Earth together as they find themselves in front of a very naked Gabriel, who seems to have forgotten all of his memories. In an effort to keep him safe from Heaven and Hell, who are hell-bent on catching hold of him for nefarious reasons. In the midst of keeping him safe and trying to make their neighbours fall in love, the Demon and Angel get to know each other better.

Good Omens Season 2 Ending Explained

In Good Omens episode 6, we finally see what all the hullabaloo was about – Gabriel got rid of his memories because he and Beelzebub fell in love, which is just the damnest thing ever. And, in the sweetest twist possible, they decide to live together away from all this mess. After they leave, the leaders of Heaven and Hell all run off, and Metatron makes an entrance and takes Aziraphale away to have a chat.

Inside the bookshop, Nina tells Crowley to tell Aziraphale his feelings and that they should finally live their truths. This makes him think about all of their cherished memories together, and when a giddy Aziraphale comes in, Crowley tries to confess his feelings. Unfortunately, Aziraphale doesn’t take the hint and blurts out that Metatron wants him to lead Heaven and that he can take Crowley to Heaven as an Angel if he wants.

Aziraphale is clearly excited for a new day in Heaven and a chance to lead it. However, Crowley gets annoyed with his excitement at the prospect of going back and confesses that they don’t need Heaven or Hell – that they can go away and happily live together, just like Gabriel and Beelzebub. In a heartbreaking moment, Aziraphale refuses to acknowledge Crowley’s pleas and tells him that it would be better if they go back to Heaven, that they can make a difference, and refuses to entertain him.

Frustrated, Crowley kisses him to show him the depth of his feelings, but Aziraphale refuses to budge, breaking Crowley’s heart. The latter wishes him the best of luck and leaves the bookshop. Metatron comes in and tells Aziraphale, who starts to feel uncomfortable with the previous exchange, that Muriel will take care of the bookshop from then on and ushers him off to Heaven. As the two of them walk down the road and to the elevator, Crowley keeps an eye on Aziraphale, right till the moment he gets on the lift and goes away before getting on his Bentley and driving off.

In the last scene, we see both Aziraphale and Crowley on their respective paths, and neither looks happy. In fact, both of them look like they are about to burst into tears (just like all of us).

So, do Aziraphale and Crowley break up?

From the looks of it, yes. Both break up because they want different things – Crowley wants to live with Aziraphale away from the toxicity of Heaven and Hell, while Aziraphale wants to go back to Heaven and rule it the way he always envisioned it. This results in them having a fight with each other, which ends in Crowley kissing Aziraphale, but it doesn’t change the latter’s stance.
