Casey Anthony Where the Truth Lies is a three-part documentary series where Casey appears in front of the camera, after nearly eleven years of her trial judgment. The series is directed by Alexandra Dean and has a total runtime of three hours, and is entirely focused on the sequence of the events that ultimately led to the unfortunate tragedy.
The documentary series marks the 911 call as the inception point of the events, after which everything picked momentum. It all started when Cindy Anthony (Casey’s mother) made a phone call to 911 operatives about her missing granddaughter Caylee Anthony and informed them about her disappearance.
All these events took place in the July of 2008 and later resulted in a six-week-long trial in 2011. During the highly controversial case, there were numerous theories that were set against Casey Anthony, right from the start. For instance, she did not report the missing of her child for over a month and also had a tattoo in the meantime. Later, she also lies to the cops about her job and gave the wrong information to the authorities.
The documentary throws light on the above theories and provides Casey’s context to the entire chain of events. It reveals that compulsive lying and tattoos were all part of her childhood abuse, and were a result of the traumatized conditions. Moreover, she also reveals in the documentary that it was her father who manipulated most of her actions.
On the final day of the trial, the jury came to their decision and pronounced Casey not guilty of the aggravated assault and slaughter. However, they did convict her of the misinformation and found Casey guilty of that aspect. Even though there were rallies and marches expressing their discontent with the decision, the jury had to rely on the benefit of the doubt, and abide by the written notes of the law.
The trial had a severe impact on the demographic and is still categorised as the most polarised discussion in American living rooms. The case is also commonly cited as the Trial of the century, which was picked up heavily by the mainstream media and netizens. Eventually, there was a lot of disagreement over the course of the case and is still one of the most debatable topics.
The docu-series further provides a deeper look into the outcome of the events and puts forward Casey’s version of the events. Where she finally gets her chance to honour the memory of her two-year-old daughter, and reveal some vital information pertaining to the trial.
All in all, Casey was released early from jail, based on her demeanour and actions. And didn’t have to face the word possible outcome, which is the death penalty. Now, after more than a decade, she is living with her leading defence investigator and his family in Florida. She has opted to stay away from the public eye and focus on her new life.
