Since the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues to expand, there are a lot more eyes on the fandom now. With the title for the upcoming Anthony Mackie starrer changed to Captain America Brave New World, the internet went up in flames, discussing how the new title affects the way we see this film. Directed by Julius Onah and written by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, this film is expected to star Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Liv Tyler, Rosa Salazar, Colby Lopez, Tim Blake Nelson, Carl Lumbly, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore.
Meanwhile, Kramer Morgenthau will join as the cinematographer, while producers Kevin Feige and Nate Moore helm the film. While the film title was based on a comic title, there have been many people talking about the anti-semitic connotations that come with it and the implications it has in the current socio-cultural climate. Meanwhile, there are some people crying about the fact that the title has changed because New World Order was a much better title.
However, there are some people taking this name in stride. Given the connotations of the new title, they have brought back the lore of Aldous Huxley, a writer in the 20th century who wrote a book titled Brave New World, about a dystopic society where everyone’s roles are determined since birth by a higher authority figure through modern techniques of brainwashing and societal construction. Given the fact that the movie wanted to explore something similar, this seems like an appropriate title.
Considering New World Order was a popular term used by alt-right activists and fundamentalist Christians, the change in the title seems appropriate. While the presence of a totalitarian government is something the film could explore, the aspects of brainwashing and control seem more in line with the Huxley title. Brainwashing and control have taken centre stage thanks to Bucky Barnes in all of the Captain America instalments. While Sebastian Stan is only rumoured to be present in this film, it would be highly concerning if he wasn’t.
Since the past three films were based on his time at HYDRA, it only makes sense to involve him when a new government body under Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross comes up in this film. Moreover, the new picture also shows our man Sam Wilson in a different suit. This probably means that we are getting the original Cap colours back, and he won’t be wearing the white suit the Wakandans had designed for him.
