Candy: NCT Dream Takes Home the First Trophy for Christmas Special at M Countdown

Breathing fresh air into the 1996 Candy released by the first generation SM Entertainment kpop group H.O.T, NCT Dream came out with their reimagined rendition of the song on December 16, 2022, and have now clinched their first trophy for the song.

The seven members of the group – Mark (leader), Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle and Jisung – brought out their first Christmas special album to greet their fans with a warm holiday, but now there efforts are being repaid equally as on December 29, 2022, at Mnet’s M Countdown (music show), they’ve reached the pinnacle after taking home their first win, having competed against NewJeans’ recent musical release of Ditto. While this stands tall as their first win for this promotion period, it has helped the group secure their overall 31st trophy.

The fans of the group, who also call themselves ‘Dreamzens’, instantly marched out on Twitter to celebrate the feat by sharing hashtags like #Candy1stWin and #NCTDREAM31stWin. Both gradually caught up with the racing hashtags and started trending on the platform.

The young subunit of NCT was also congratulated by the fellow Chinese subunit of the group, WayV, as its five members – Kun (leader), Ten, Henry, Xiaojun and Yangyang – joined them on stage along with ‘sunbae’ Minho (SHINee) during their victorious ceremony. WayV is currently promoting its latest comeback Phantom. All three – 7Dream, WayV and Minho even captured the SM family moment later with a picture together, commemorating the on-stage reunion.

The Winter Special Mini Album has 6 songs in its tracklist with the titular track being accompanied by 5 b-sides, namely, Graduation, Tangerine Love (Favourite), Take My Breath, Moon and Walk With You. You can check out our review of the music video here.

Shining with their youthful blast of energy, the septet can be seen having the time of their life as they indulge into the bubbly choreography for an even bubblier music track. While the members too have joked around about the lyrics of the song not matching with its full-of-life music video and sound, there’s no doubt that the group’s beloved fandom will be putting this on with the volume all the up to celebrate the end of the year.

Dreamies are known for their teen pop and old school hip-hop sound signature, which also found its footing in the repackaged album released prior to the Winter Special, i.e. Beatbox. The group also came out with a concert film/documentary NCT Dream The Movie: In A Dream which featured performances from their OT7 concert, The Dream Show 2, held earlier this year.
