10 Cringe Reality Shows of 2022 That Made Us Question Reality: Dubai Bling, Selling the OC, Love is Blind and More

Another year has ended, and it’s time to reflect on the good and bad memories. As a writer and an avid viewer of content on various OTT platforms, I watched and reviewed some good and some questionable content. With some amazing movies and shows, I also came across some Cringe Reality Shows of 2022 on Netflix, Prime Video and other streaming services.

We have made a list of shows that made us cringe because of their staged scenes, unnecessary drama and bizarre steamy sequences.

Cringe Reality Shows of 2022

Dubai Bling

Netflix’s Dubai Bling brought together some successful people of Dubai together. They worked, partied a lot and gossiped now and then. The show was high on stupidity. There was not a single genuine moment. One woman wanted a new house for her clothes and forced her husband to get one. The husband tried to manipulate her into having another child. Why? All the drama did was make me envious of their wealth. But I would still like to keep my brains with all that money!

Watch it here at your own risk.

Selling the OC

Talking about stupidity, Selling the OC was just like Dubai Bling. In the Netflix reality show, real estate agents working for the Oppenheim group have to sell lavish properties in Orange County. But there was less work and more gossip, backbiting and drama. The show was highly sexist as it portrayed how women in the workplace are insecure and constantly try to bring each other down.

Selling the OC Kayla and Tyler

In one episode, a contestant named Kayla Cardona tries to kiss Tyler Stanaland, her married colleague. When others confront her, she starts acting like a victim and gets mad at Tyler for telling others. The man apologises to her! I hope the memory of this distasteful show goes out of my mind soon.

Love is Blind and Too Hot to Handle

At this point, I still need to count the number of seasons and the different places where both shows have been filmed at. These shows are different sides of the same coin. One can change people, places and some rules, but the cringe factor either remains the same or increases with every season. If this is how love looks like, one would prefer to be single as a pringle.

Cosmic Love

Talking about singlehood, some singles took a chance to find love in a cosmic way. In Prime Video’s Cosmic Love, 4 contestants mingle with different people inside a house. They are paired according to zodiac signs and, in the end, have to get married. But who cares about zodiac signs when people are paid to make out, cheat and fight? I am still waiting for the wedding pics of the couple that got married on the show!

Moving in With Malaika

Dancer, reality show judge, and fashionista Malaika Arora promised we would get an up-close look into her personal life with the reality show. The promos were quite exciting. But the Disney+ Hotstar series turned out to be a disappointment. While Malaika tried her hand at comedy, competing with Nora Fatehi and inviting some of her friends, most of it felt scripted and boring. Watching it was such a waste of time. I’d rather watch her Chaiyya Chaiyya song with Shah Rukh Khan 16 times instead.

The Kardashians Season 2

Will the internet ever forget the theories of the fake, edited tear on Kim Kardashian’s face? No. But what we would like to forget is the over-the-top romance between Kim K and her then-beau, Pete Davidson. If that wasn’t enough, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Baker had no boundaries regarding making out. One can’t even tell them to get a room because the Hulu series was filmed in their rooms!

Hype House

I can’t believe Netflix tried to convince viewers of the grinds of some influencers living in a big mansion in California. TikTok influencers Chase Hudson, Nikita Dragun, Alex Warren, Kouvr Annon, Larray Merritt, Vinnie Hacker, Thomas Petrou, Jack Wright and Mia Hayward, live together and discuss how to make content and earn money.

But to add melodrama to the series, the makers made these influencers talk about how hard their lives are and how making content is one of the biggest challenges in their life. The Gen Z internet stars emphasise how stressful their jobs are. They live in a big house, dance, fight, follow any random trend, and make money out of it. Again, everything looks staged. No one forced them to do it. So why were they constantly complaining about it?

The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives Season 2

Another reality show on Netflix features 4 celebrity wives, Bhavana Pandey, Maheep Kapoor, Neelam Kothari and Seema Sajdeh. The show should be renamed ‘Whine and Dine with Bollywood Wives’ because that’s all these ladies do.

With a glass of wine in their hands, the ladies cry about their “struggles” or bitch and gossip about each other. The last episode featuring Ranveer Singh made me forcefully shut my senses because it was the most uncomfortable thing I have seen this year. In the second season, I couldn’t wrap my mind around some ridiculous fake fights and the concept of a designer vagina. Still clueless…

Indian Matchmaking Season 2

The Netflix show featuring Sima Taparia has ingrained the fear of arranged marriage in many people’s minds. If you or I don’t get married anytime soon, we know whom to blame!

Which reality show from the list above made you question reality? Is there any other show that made you lose your brain cells and you would like to add to the list of Cringe Reality shows of 2022? Do let us know in the comments section below.
