Schiavone, known also by the enigmatic moniker Sparrowhawk, is a figure propelled by an unrelenting quest for the legendary Palermo gold. Despite his recent occupation as a bounty hunter, his deepest yearning remains fixated on the allure of possessing the fabled treasure.

Throughout the unfolding narrative, subtle nuances hint at the reliability of Sparrowhawk’s character. Yet, it is only when he intervenes to rescue Felomina and pledges allegiance to the brigands’ cause that a glimmer of potential transformation emerges. However, the revelation of his true priorities surfaces in the final moments, as he betrays Guerra and the band of outlaws, absconding with the entirety of the coveted gold. Despite this betrayal, he opts to spare Guerra’s life, offering a glimpse into the complexities of his motivations.

It is only in the aftermath, when Sparrowhawk employs the gold as a means to secure the freedom of a mysterious woman, perhaps his paramour, that his ultimate intentions are laid bare.
