Brick Ending Explained
The film opens with Tim and Olivia, who are going through a rough time after losing their baby during childbirth, struggling to keep their relationship alive. They are closed off from one another emotionally, and in a last-ditch effort, Olivia asks Tim to go with him to Paris and restart their lives. However, Tim refuses, and that night, she decides to leave him and, in that moment, finds a wall blocking their doors. They try to break through but are unable to do so, and after testing the door for a bit, they decide to break through the neighbours’ apartments to go out of the sewer tunnels underneath.

While in a neighbour’s apartment below them, they are shocked to find cameras installed by the owner, Friedman, and decide to confront him, only to find him dead with his hands missing. Confused and careful, they continue to descend down the apartments and find other people trapped and, unfortunately, find the wall trapping them inside in the basement as well. Frustrated, Marvin uses Mr Oswalt’s gun on the wall, and it shoots the bullets right back, killing Mr Oswalt.
The group is heartbroken and loses hope, but decides to go into Anton’s apartment to find more clues. Inside, they find another secret room and try to find the password, while Olivia and Lea find a business card for a nano research facility. Either way, Tim is able to figure out the password and finds out that Friedman had been recording all of their apartments. Through these recordings, they are shocked to find how the wall came down.

At Anton’s apartment, Lea finds out that he had been strangled, and the others see the recording of Yuri killing Anton. They rush back to find him attacking Marvin and stop him just in time. With Anton’s notes now burnt by Yuri, the two couples try to figure out what is happening. Tim and Olivia wonder whether this is code, and Tim mentions that Anton’s company was located in the Harbour District, which went up in flames the previous day.

What is the wall? Are they able to escape?

Yuri tells the group that Epsilon built this wall against any form of attack; however, they aren’t able to extract more. The group then go through the surveillance footage and finds Anton interpreting the code using his phone, and Tim realises that the wall is like a QR code that a cell phone can interpret. Tim uses his skills to use an app and use light to open the wall, and after using the app, it emits light in a specific way that changes the wall.
Ana puts her hand on the wall and senses something behind it, but eventually realises that she can’t pull her hand out. Instead, her whole body starts to get pulled in, and then the wall resets, cutting her body in half. Heartbroken, Marvin kills Yuri and then shoots himself. With everyone now dead, Tim and Olivia realise that the answer might be interpreting the number of light flashes. They figure out the correct order, but surprisingly, Yuri comes back to life and attacks them.
The three engage in a fight, ending in Olivia killing Yuri and walking out with Tim. They walk out of the basement and into the street, shocked to see that the entire city is now covered in bricks. Shocked, they get up in their car and drive away to restart their lives as planned.
What does the ending signify?

The end signifies Olivia and Tim working together to overcome their obstacles and keeping the past in the past. The film is a euphemism for overcoming grief, and by working together and listening to one another, Tim and Olivia are able to break down the walls around them, save their relationship and start fresh.
