Brahmāstra Part One Shiva was released in theatres on September 9. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the fantasy adventure drama stars Amitabh Bachchan as Guru, Ranbir Kapoor as Shiva, Mouni Roy as Junoon and Alia Bhatt as Isha. There are special appearances by Shah Rukh Khan and Nagarjuna. The film has received mixed reviews from critics, but the audience has many good things to say.
With Brahmāstra, Ayan has started his Astraverse and has plans to make 2 more movies. When the trailer dropped, fans had many theories. We have a lot to discuss now that it’s out in theatres. If you are yet to watch the movie, you shouldn’t be reading further as the article contains all the spoilers.
After watching Part One Shiva, we also have some crazy theories. They might be right or wrong. From Dev’s identity to Alia, aka Isha’s motive, we have some theories we hope come true.
Read some of our Brahmāstra theories
Dev is Unaware of Shiva
When Dev sends Junoon to collect the pieces of Brahmāstra, we believe he isn’t aware of Shiva’s existence. Otherwise, Junoon wouldn’t have complained to her master that there’s a boy creating problems in her mission.
Yes, we know Shiva is Dev and Amrita’s son. But what if Amrita never told him she was pregnant? What if, after the war between Dev and Amrita, she knew that her lover might harm the child? So she kept him away from him and even Brahmansh.
Dev Kills Amrita
We got a small glimpse of Amrita in the second half, and we think it’s Deepika Padukone. As Shiva remembers, it’s the fire that kills his mother. But after watching the movie twice, we noticed that when Amrita holds the baby near the window, there’s a reflection or orange light on her face. She suddenly keeps the baby in the cradle.

In a few seconds, Amrita is burning in the fire, but Shiva is protected. When baby Shiva cries on the floor, Amrita’s shank (conch) is beside him. We learn in the end that the last piece of Brahmāstra was hidden in the conch. What if the last piece protected baby Shiva? Yes, he is a fire astra. But what if there’s more to that scene? Answer us ASAP, Ayan!
Isha is evil, or maybe not
Whoever has watched the movie, will agree that we all thought Isha was also evil. While that didn’t happen, there are still chances of that happening. Isha acted very dumb and was being too nice to Shiva. Why does Ayan want us to believe that a random girl who easily agrees to go to a stranger’s place in the first meet has good intentions? What if Dev sent Isha secretly because he wanted her to complete the mission with Junoon at the forefront?

Another theory about Isha is that Amrita has sent her. We know that Amrita is Jalastra, so it’s hard to believe that she died in the fire. She probably decided to stay away from Shiva so no one would come after him. But what if she sensed that Dev was about to do something and sent Isha to protect him? Shiva’s power started acting up the moment Isha entered his life.
The makers left no chance to tell us that Isha is Shiva’s light. So it makes sense that Amrita sent Isha to protect Shiva. We hope Ayan writes Isha’s character better in the next movies if it is neither of these. She really appears very dumb (sorry, Alia, we love you).
Shiva might also have Jal power
Shiva is Dev and Amrita’s son. If he possesses the power of fire like his father, it only makes sense that he might also have jal powers. But he is not aware of it yet. We think no one knows it yet. Maybe, he will find out about it in the next instalment?

Shah Rukh Khan is Dev
Ever since the trailer dropped, everyone had one question – Who’s Dev? Initially, everyone thought it was SRK because reports of the superstar being in the movie were already out. But the actor plays scientist Mohan Bhargav, a member of Brahmansh who protects one piece of Brahmāstra.
After a small glimpse of Shiva, the movie starts with Mohan’s showdown with Junoon and her men. Ayan showed us that Mohan killed himself. But is he really dead? Was he really a good guy? We believe Mohan is Dev and have an interesting theory about the same.

The scene begins with scientist Mohan Bhargav studying the piece of Brahmāstra. Why is he doing that if his goal is to protect it? Mohan names those male killers Raftaar and Zor. These names are used to address them till the end. Why? When Junoon controls Mohan’s mind to fetch information, he says, ‘bohot taakat hai andhere mein’ (darkness has lots of power). Who says this when someone is about to attack them?
Mohan even gives away information about the Artist. However, when Junoon asks him about Guru, Mohan struggles. Even he can’t see Guru’s face. Mohan is in pain and says he won’t tell her anything beyond this.
When the two men attack Mohan, Shiva starts getting these visions. Ayan doesn’t explain the vision part in detail. Is it because he wants to reveal that in the next part? We are shown that Mohan jumps off the roof (kind of) and is dead. But his last words are – main kabhi haarta nahi (I never lose) with a smirk. That’s such bad boy vibes!
We really hope this theory is right because we can’t think of anyone better than superstar Shah Rukh Khan playing the supervillain of Brahmāstra. But if that doesn’t happen, chances are it will be Ranveer Singh or Ranbir Kapoor. We don’t want another Shamshera twist because it will be underwhelming. It’s the most obvious twist, which won’t be surprising.
Fans want to see Ranveer vs Ranbir in the next part. But if Ayan Mukerji has thought what we are thinking, Shah Rukh Khan vs Ranbir Kapoor will make people crazier!
So these are some of our theories. Let’s hope Ayan makes Brahmāstra Part Two: Dev, and we get our answers.

So far, I think I can only agree with the theory where Shiva is unaware of the Jal power in him.
The visions part was explained in the movie, later on. Shiva is the Agni Astra which was his father’s dominant power. The mani that Zor, Raftar and Junoon wear, they have the shadow of that power, hence creating a Voldemort- Harry connection (mind link, if you will).
Why Zor and Raftaar were addressed so till the end, was because the story was of Shiva. He saw the entire Mohan scene in his vision and saw him address to them by those names. I hardly recall Junoon ever referring to them by these or any other names for that matter. The names are adjectives, just as Junoon is.
As per Alia’s part. “Love is a fire” fits here well. Since she’s taken the role of Parvati, she is Shiva’s better half for now. I did find if a bit odd that being a frail human with no power she was acting more as an asset than a liability, but she was also a very important factor in the story. She not only made Shiva utilise his powers but also come to terms with it. Had it not been for the fear of losing her, Shiva would never have used his powers to toast Raftaar.
As per the love story, it was cringe at some parts. Though, personally, had it been some three-four years ago that we’d seen this movie, I hardly think it would’ve been that bad. Given the cast was some 16-17 year old running around. The world has seen too much heart break and quality content since. It would’ve been much better had the love developed slowly, but hey, it does happen to some lucky chaps. That passionate whirlwind of emotions.
Mohan CANNOT be Dev. Dev was an acquaintance of Guru, as was Mohan. As was Amrita. I think Brahmansh would’ve noticed.
I do believe that Dev killed Amrita. Dying in a sudden fire? I hardly think so. But then again, why did she not protect herself? Was her Jal Astra lost? Stolen?
And, yes Dev is unaware of Shiva. Or maybe if he did kill Amrita, and he left the baby to die, unbeknownst of the fact that fire “never bothered it anyway” he has little idea that he had a kid.
Anyway, so…
Ciao!
