Netflix’s new drama film Blonde has finally been released on the platform. The two-hour forty-six-minute feature explores the rise and fall of Hollywood actress Marlyn Monroe.
Directed by Andrew Dominik, the film was the talk of the town for a while and has garnered sharp reactions from netizens. It stars Ana de Armas in the leading role, while Adrien Brody is in a crucial supporting performance.

Even since its release, the film has received online criticism from a section of the audience, for the portrayal of Marlyn’s personal life. The viewers are of the opinion that the film exploits the life story of Marilyn, and fails to showcase her true side.
The film enters a rabbit hole of sequences. Where it aims to do justice to the story, but falls into the trap of its own setup.
Notably, the film had its world premiere at Venice Film Festival and received a standing ovation of 14 minutes. The leading star Ana de Armas even got emotional after the response and expressed gratitude to the audience.
The film is based on the book Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates, and the screenplay is adapted by Andrew Dominik himself. A major part of the flick is shot in black and white, while the aspect ratio keeps alternating.
Apart from the online community of cinephiles, the film has received mixed reactions from critics. Some praised the performance of Ana de Armas, while others criticized the treatment of the story. Dominik’s depiction of extremely graphic and sexual content also garnered much controversy.
