Black Bird Episode 3 Review: Hand to Mouth

Black Bird Episode 3 is called ‘Hand to Mouth’. Dennis Lehane developed the series, and the third episode is directed by Michaël R. Roskam. The crime drama stars Taron Egerton as James Keene, Paul Walter Hauser as Larry Hall, Ray Liotta as James ‘Big Jim’ Keene, Sepideh Moafi as Lauren McCauley and Greg Kinnear as Brian Miller.

Based on a true incident, the screenplay is adapted from James Keene’s novel, In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption. The synopsis reads, “Struggling with his transition to maximum security prison, Jimmy initiates a frienship with Larry. New holes in Larry’s stories are uncovered.”

Apple TV+’s Black Bird Episode 3 Recap Contains Spoilers

In Black Bird Episode 3, Jimmy meets his father, which doesn’t sit well with a cop on duty. The cop starts blackmailing him for 10 grand money, or he will tell others that he is a snitch. Jimmy wants the mission to go smoothly and requests his father to arrange the money. It’s a difficult task.

During lunchtime, Jimmy tries talking to Larry. But Larry doesn’t respond. Jimmy ends up bonding with a criminal with alias ‘The Chip’. But his mission is to bond with Larry, which will help him get rid of the prison life ASAP. When someone in prison tries to bully Larry and others while watching TV, Jimmy beats up the bully.

Larry finally talks to Jimmy and asks him why he’s protecting him. Jimmy says he wasn’t protecting him. The two finally become friends and talk about everything – family, college, girls and semen, wet p*ssy and other weird stuff. Jimmy grows suspicious of Larry due to the weird talks.

On the other hand, Lauren and Brian find more clues in cases related to Larry’s victims. Lauren even wonders if Larry Hall is truly the serial killer or not or if he’s just taking the credit for someone else’s crimes. She even shares their doubt with Jimmy. But Jimmy tells her that he is the serial killer. But can’t prove it yet.

Jimmy asks Lauren if she can help him arrange money as the cop has threatened to expose his cover. Lauren says that arranging the money is tough. Lauren assures Jimmy that she will help him leave the maximum security prison in a few weeks. But Jimmy refuses to take her help. He’s full-on in for the mission and wants to stay inside.

Another highlight of the episode was Larry talking about Jimmy to his prison therapist. He talks about their friendship and calls Jimmy funny.

Black Bird Episode 3 Review: Final Thoughts

Black Bird Episode 3 is a good development after the first two episodes. We finally saw Jimmy and Larry bonding. I wondered how that was going to happen. Larry might talk like an innocent man, but his semen-fluid conversation with Jimmy is something I want to forget. It only shows the creepy side of Larry.

The show has gotten more intriguing. Now, with the cop behind his life and Larry becoming his good friend, I can’t wait to see what Jimmy’s next step will be.

The episode is now streaming on Apple TV+.
