Candy
This recent Hulu release came in like a storm and swept everyone with its narrative and impactful performances by the actors. Created by Nick Antosca and Robin Veith, this miniseries recounts the story of Candy Montgomery, the axe-murderer accused of killing her best friend, Betty Gore by slashing her with an axe 41 times! Inventing Anna
Julia Garner is a star performer, we already know by her award-winning role in Netflix’s Ozark. But, it is the OTT platform’s true-crime series dealing with the fraud of Anna Sorkin that actually lets you fall in love with the incredible actor Garner is. Created and produced by Shonda Rhimes, the 9-episode series is based on the article in New York titled How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People by Jessica Pressler. You can watch it, here.
The Staircase
The infamous story of Michael Peterson murdering his wife Katheleen Peterson found a way to reignite itself in our minds through HBO Max’s miniseries The Staircase, based on the 2004 true-crime docuseries of the same name created by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade. Under the Banner of Heaven
The darkness of the fundamentalist Mormon culture is what forms the crux of this Hulu miniseries. Based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Jon Krakauer, the show has seven episodes and is created by Dustin Lance Black. The Tinder Swindler
From the creator of Don’t F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer, The Tinder Swindler on Netflix is a documentary that tells the true story of the Israeli conman Simon Leviev aka Shimon Hayut, who used the dating eponymous dating to connect with individuals and then emotionally manipulated them into financially supporting for his lavish lifestyle. The Dropout
Founder of the infamous company Theranos and the apparent Steve Jobs in the making, Elizabeth Holmes made headlines with the scam and fraud she did with her company. Hulu’s The Dropout threaded on the entire story of Holmes through eight episodes and starred Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes and Naveen Andrews as Sunny Balwani amongst others. Bad Vegan: Fame Fraud Fugitives
We have all laughed at those vegan jokes thrown across the room but, Netflix really took it a step further by giving us a scary reality check of vegan life. Directed by Chris Smith, Bad Vegan is a 4-part documentary series about vegan restaurateur Sarma Melngailis, who illegally transferred money to her husband so he could pay a deity to bestow immortality upon them. The Girl from Plainville
Suicide is a serious offence but, assisted suicide? What if you push someone to the edge to commit suicide? Sounds scary, right? Well, Hulu’s The Girl from Plainville revolves around these particular themes recounting the story of the events leading to the death of Conrad Roy and how his girlfriend Michelle Carter was convicted for involuntary manslaughter.
