Becoming Witch (The Witch is Alive / 마녀는 살아있다)is a mystery-comedy Korean drama series created by Kim Yun-chul and Park Pa-ran and starring Lee Yu-ri, Lee Min-young and Yoon So-yi. The TV Chosun series has 12 episodes total and Becoming Witch Episode 4 has a runtime of 79 minutes.

Becoming Witch Episode 4 starts where the previous episode left off- Hee-soo is contemplating removing her mother-in-law from life support, Jin-a is shocked seeing a particular actor on tv and Ma-ri asks Nak-gu for clarification about one rainy night in April. As Hee-soo’s mother-in-law dies, her husband discovers what she has done. Jin-a realises that the actor on TV might just be Woo-bin, meaning her husband is not dead. And, Ma-ri and Nak-goo’s fight continues as the latter cannot give Ma-ri the answers she seeks.
The next segment is dedicated to Hee-soo’s mother-in-law’s funeral where the pretentious nature of her sisters-in-laws makes her laugh out loud at the grim occasion. One of her in-laws searches for some prized possession owned by Hee-soo’s mother-in-law’s and also complains about Hee-soo’s erratic behaviour at the funeral. The girls, meanwhile, gather in the washroom and have a hearty laugh.
Ma-ri and Jin-a leave together after the funeral, where the latter confides in the former about her husband being alive along with a picture from tv. Ma-ri pulls a Matrix reference and asks Jin-a if she wants to know the truth or live in the lie, where the truth means she has scammed the insurance company with her husband’s death that can land her in prison.

Meanwhile, it is chaos for Nak-go. He meets with a divorce lawyer at the Unbeaten firm and hatches a winning divorce plan. At his place of work, he is no longer being able to lead the news show by being the anchor and an interview by Go-eun’s boyfriend going viral paints a bad image of him. Ma-ri, on the other hand, looks for the copy of a traffic receipt issued under Nak-go’s name that might just confirm who was with him on a rainy night through the picture but, before that Nak-go convinces his boss to help him out of the situation by posing as the one with Nak-go that day.
This all happens because Nak-go threatens to resign from his workplace. A bluff he called ultimately. Ma-ri understands the scheme and goes to meet Go-eun for the truth but, ends up crossing paths with her boyfriend who suggests Go-eun was with Nak-go on a rainy night, the night they were about to break up. Ma-ri does not believe him as he had not seen Nak-go’s face in the car he suggests Go-eun ran off in.
Jin-a, on the other hand, plans a journey to Guseong-ri after talking to the producer of the tv show where she thinks the actor is Woo-bin. After getting to the wild woods after much difficulty, she gets a confirmation that actor Kim is Woo-bin as he retains a water-oriented trauma, something that only makes sense since Jin-a assumed Woo-bin had died due to drowning.
Things keep getting harder for Hee-soo, who gets accused of killing her mother-in-law from her sister-in-laws, after they discover that she has sold the house belonging to Mu-young’s mother. It is also Hee-soo’s birthday, so the accusations, mistreatment and slap on her face make up for a sad event.
Ma-ri tries to dig the rabbit hole to find out about the rainy night in April (11th April, to be exact). In a flashback, we see that the day matters to Ma-ri as she was sick and bleeding and needed Nak-go by her side the most but, he wasn’t there. She rushed to the hospital on her own and got operated and, only after that Nak-go showed up. As for Nak-go, he meets Go-eun in a hotel room and asks her to marry him, which she agrees to.
He also gives her half of the traffic note that has a picture of him and Go-eun on the night they first met. Later, he returns to his house, confesses to being with Go-eun on 11th April and instigates Ma-ri to fight him which he gets recorded as a proof that he has been kicked out of his house. Things look grim between Mu-young and Hee-soo, as he isn’t comfortable with her living with him. Moments later, the police come in to pick up Hee-soo.

Hee-soo’s sister-in-law accuses her of killing Mu-young’s mother. While the interrogation at the police station, Hee-soo agrees that she has killed her mother-in-law. Ma-ri visits the oracle for a tarot card reading. Jin-a joins shortly after demanding to know about Woo-bin and, how the orcale knew Woo-bin was close by. Ma-ri gets a tarot card with a barcode which she scans and it reads “Husband’s Death Note”. The link leads her to a blog where women rant about their husbands.
Becoming Witch Episode 4 Ending
Becoming Witch Episode 4 comes to an end with Jin-a being followed by a man in a black hoodie. They clash and it turns out to be her husband, Woo-bin. Ma-ri goes to a grocery store and is followed by two men who click her picture and update it to a source.
At the grocery store, Ma-ri’s credit cards get declined and her attention goes to the news playing on the screen. It shows Suk-hui, the woman she has met many times at the oracle’s cafe becoming the new CEO of her deceased husband’s company. She receives a call from someone who updates her about Nak-go’s location. This is possibly a person she has hired to keep a tab of Nak-go.
We witness Nak-go buying flowers and driving off with Go-eun. Meanwhile, Ma-ri seems to get the news over call and rushes out of the grocery store. She runs, possibly to reach Nak-go.
Becoming Witch Episode 4: Final Thoughts
Where Becoming Witch is heading is a big question at this point. The plot seemingly has gotten interesting with Jin-a meeting Woo-bin and Hee-soo confessing to a crime. Ma-ri’s storyline remains the same but, the mystery of the ending is gripping to make us tune in for a new episode. This episode hinted a lot towards references from Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix, starting from the red pill-blue pill question to the oracle baking the cookies. It is deeply intriguing to see what the show is aiming at and it will keep us hooked until we know it all.
