After creeping the audience with Midsommar and Hereditary, Ari Aster is back with yet another frenzy and weird movie. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Beau is Afraid trailer launched today, and it set the foundation for Ari Aster’s remarkable weird themes. As the name suggests, the movie revolves around the main character Beau (Joaquin Phoenix), a paranoid guy and his wild adventure en route to see his mother.
In the recently released trailer, we can see Beau chilling at the beach, staring into our souls with a blank face, while there is also another kid, apparently his younger version doing precisely the same. The scene then shifts to a woman explaining how she wished for a child but sadly ended up with one carrying the father’s genes. Boom, a jumpscare comes right in.
In the following scenes, Beau lets his therapist know he will visit his mother. Then a phone call from his mother keeps Beau happy and prepared to meet her. But it is at this point his life seems to cap size. On his way to reach his mother, Beau gets into an accident, leaving him to stay behind at a suspicious place with a health monitor attached to him.

After this particular scene, the trailer proceeds to show Beau’s struggles to escape the place and the clumsy adventure he encounters. The trailer had some questionable animated scenarios with Beau crossing them all. Beau is also experiencing his life at different stages in 2D situations, from childhood and teenage to his old and feeble era. It clearly denotes that Beau is sick in mind, yet there is a lingering feeling that something else is off. Beau just wishes to meet his mother, to which a masked woman coldly says, “I know.”
While the animated landscapes seem completely new from Ari Aster’s previous gory films, we still can’t judge just by the trailer. The movie bags a star-studded cast like Joaquin Phoenix, Parker Posey, Hayley Squires, Denis Ménochet, Kylie Rogers, Armen Nahapetian, Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Patti LuPone and more. Hence, we can expect a new Ari Aster genre that will send chills down our spine.
