In the heart-wrenching Barry Season 4 Finale, the truth unravels the Berkman family, one by one. Sally, burdened by guilt, confides in John about her and Barry’s fugitive status. However, their secret is exposed when Hank cunningly captures Sally and John, holding them hostage as leverage.
Hank, fueled by vengeance, forces Fuches into a dangerous situation. He demands that Fuches orchestrate a deal to disappear forever in exchange for pinning Cristobal’s murder on Hank. Reluctant to take the blame, Hank stands his ground, rejecting the offer outright. The chaos ensues as a deadly shootout erupts within Hank’s headquarters.
Amidst the bullets and bloodshed, survival becomes a thin chance. Miraculously, Fuches, John, and Sally are the sole survivors of the violent ordeal. Just as a heavily armed Barry arrives on the scene. Unexpectedly, Fuches grants him safe passage, allowing Barry to leave with his family.
Jim and the district attorney seize the opportunity to hold a high-profile press conference, announcing the reopening of Janice’s case. In a stunning twist, they publicly accuse Gene, Berkman’s acting mentor, as the primary suspect. The news devastates Sally, and she pleads with Berkman to turn himself in, believing it to be the only path to redemption. However, Berkman, driven by a newfound sense of self-worth, adamantly refuses, asserting that their survival signifies his redemption.

Sally, torn between loyalty and her own conscience, ultimately chooses to leave with John for the night. In a desperate attempt to find them, Berkman finds himself at Gene’s house, where the tension is outright. Tom, Gene’s talent agent, pleads with Barry to come clean and face the consequences.
In a climactic moment, Berkman instructs Tom to call the police, just as Gene enters the room. Tragically, Gene fatally shoots Barry in the head. Years pass, and the repercussions of these events continue to make way. Sally, having turned into a high school theatre teacher, tries to make peace with her life. Gene, paying the price for his actions, gets sentenced to life behind bars. Berkman, gone but not forgotten, is laid to rest with solemn military honours, with his sacrifice acknowledged. A teenage John watches the biopic dedicated to Barry’s life which paints Gene as a villain, while Berkman is immortalized as a role model.
