Arctic Monkeys announced their comeback after 4 years and they are already making the day of their fans worldwide. On 30 August, the rock band released the lead track titled, ‘There’d Better Be a Mirrorball‘ from their forthcoming album The Car. In the video description, they mentioned that their album will be coming out on 21 October 2022.
Recently, the band performed at the Leeds Festival in the UK on the weekend and even tested out some of their new tracks among the pre-set songs list. In the middle of a set that included songs from their six number one albums, Arctic Monkeys also performed the unreleased I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am which sounded like a late Bowie-esque track which gave a glimpse of their upcoming LP.
Most artists and bands would refrain from performing their unreleased songs even before release, in fact, they are very secretive and try to keep them confidential so it isn’t leaked. But the group consisting of Alex Turner (lead vocals, guitar), Jamie Cook (guitar, keyboards), Nick O’Malley (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Matt Helders (drums, backing vocals), are definitely not like most bands.

But what makes the new song There’d Better Be a Mirrorball, even more amazing is that it is directed by the frontman Alex Turner and his new appearance is making fans swoon over him. The song has a jazzy feel to it with an edge of ’60s pop balladry. Turner has previously described The Car as picking up where 2018’s album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino left off.
The aesthetic of the video adds to the sentimental song with grainy visuals. While Turner’s direction and appearance heighten the sense of sensuality as he paints cinematic scenes with dreamy lyrics. The video starts with a multiple-screen window which zooms into one and we are dazzled by a close-up shot of the singer.
Overall, the music video consists of many close-ups and zoom-in shots of the band mates’ instruments and them playing it. And some stylistic shots of the band walking in different settings and trying to visually tell the lyrics, like whenever the word mirrorball comes, you can see a mirror prop (like window panes) used in the video.

Fans are certainly rejoiced by the song as one person commented on the video, “This is beautiful. Alex’s voice is so incredible, tinged with melancholia. The lyrics are minimal but heavy-hitting. I am so amazed to see their evolution as a band.” And many are reclaiming that when we needed them the most, they came back, talk about the right timing.
The band has earlier announced their world tour in countries like France, Brazil, Colombia and Australia next year. So we can expect to hear songs from ‘The Car’ on the Arctic Monkeys’ upcoming world tour.
