Alchemy of Souls: Reasons Why Jang UK Is Our Ideal Male Lead

Alchemy of Souls part 1 was simply marvellous and we loved every single episode (maybe not for everyone) of the show! Starring Lee Jae-wook, Jung So-min, Hwang Min-hyun, Shin Seong-ho, alongside other cast members, the Kdrama is created by Park Joon-hwa, Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran.

The series revolves around Jang Uk and Naksu aka Mu-deok, residents of the fictional country of Daeho, whose shortcomings get eradicated when they invariably come into each other’s lives. Naksu, an elite warrior trapped in the weak body of Mu-deok, becomes Jang Uk’s servant and secret teacher and helps him become better than the rumours that follow him.

There is no doubt that this show had really amazing cast with some talented actors playing these characters. But the characters that they’ve played so proficiently have to be the real scene-stealers because everything from Mu-deok’s agility to Jin Mu’s evilness was what really stole our hearts.

And among these amazing characters was the protagonist, our King’s star Jang Uk! This guy played by Lee Je-wook is the kind of male lead who hopes and will not give up on the things that he wants. He really values his friends and is so attentive towards people that it is sometimes shocking.

This quick-witted and lovable man can make anyone fall in love with him, not just because of his beautiful face but also his heart that will pull you into his world. Be it an assassin, a noble lady, or more than half of Daeho, even the crown prince cannot ignore his charms.

Jang Uk is definitely the male lead who is realistic and the ideal man we want in our lives and this is a shoutout for our favourite mage who is made to go through trials again and again.

We knew that Alchemy of Souls was the show that we had to watch when it began with such an explosion that kept us stuck to the show through the weeks. It was right at the beginning that Jang Uk showed us that he is not just a pretty face and will observe everything that needs to be seen.

When he told Mu-deok about her real identity as Naksu, the line may have started in a flirtatious way when he complimented her eyes, but he quickly changes the mood by pointing out the blue mark of the soul shifter in her eyes. His observant personality is set in stone here because Mu-deok met a lot of people by then and yet only he observed this.

This is one friendship that we have really loved because these two men who love the same woman don’t go down the “let’s fight for the girl” route and instead handle things in a more mature way. We know that their bond is one of the strongest because all he was told is that Seo Yul couldn’t sleep well to know that he is aware of Naksu.

This guy’s observing skills are just too damn good and I have really loved how smart he is throughout the show while everyone keeps underestimating him. Be it when Mu-deok gives up on luring him for Kil-joo, when he is able to sense master Lee inadvertently pointing at his birth, when Park Jin has untold feelings for Kim Do-ju or even when Mu-deok was compelled in the last episode.

I really love how he is able to sense everything and in the last episode when things got heartbreaking and yet beautiful because he knows that something is wrong with her so he calls out her name. Jang Uk is really an amazing male lead and there’s no doubt about that.

Now while there are other aspects of him other than his good looks, observant personality, his devotion to Mu-deok and his love for Kim Do-ju, these were some that we really loved about him in the show.

However, things are going to level up soon with the upcoming Alchemy of Souls season 2 which will show us a darker Jang Uk who has had enough of Jin Mu messing things up in the world. So let’s patiently wait for part 2 and till then, keep the show and the character in our mind.
