Alchemy of Souls (환혼) is a 2022 Korean fantasy drama which is set in the imaginary world of Daeho. The story revolves around young magicians who are to carry the burden of the past. Starring Lee Jae-wook, Jung So-min and Hwang Min-hyun, the show premiered on tvN on Jun 18, 2022. The show will have 20 episodes and it takes over tvN’s Saturday-Sunday 9 PM KST timeslot previously occupied by Our Blues. Alchemy of Souls episode 14 has a runtime of 69 minutes.

Everyone is talking about Jang Uk as Alchemy of Souls episode 14 begins. Park Jin fears that he will become powerful, Jin Mu wants to know how far he has reached and about his master, while Seo Yul is worried about him. Master Lee understand Park Jin’s fears but then asks him how long it took him to reach Chisu, to which he replies 10 years.
Master Lee then says that there are some geniuses in this world who can control this energy since birth and while some fear them, there are others who worry about them. Near the lake and away from everyone else, Jang Uk continues to fish for a Golden Fish and soon he succeeds, while also mastering Chisu. Master Lee on the other hand reassures Park Jin that if Jang Uk takes the wrong path with his powers then he himself will stop him.

The next day, the crown prince meets Mu-deok who apologises to him for having lost nine gold toads. The crown prince tells her to drop the act as he knows that she has used him to train Jang Uk. He calls the blue jade a love token and tells her that he will destroy it once Jang Uk loses the last duel. But seeing Mu-deok being uncaring about it he throws the jade and tells her to bet herself. She agrees.
The crown prince is now determined to beat Jang Uk and calls upon Seo Yul to fight the final duel. Seo Yul agrees to fight after making sure the Mu-deok will be the object of the bet in the final duel.
The duel between Jang Uk and Seo Yul begins, and while Jang Uk impresses everyone with his skills and techniques learnt from other duels, he loses. Everyone congratulates him for reaching Chisu, while Mu-deok goes to meet the crown prince. There he reminds her that she is now Seo Yul’s maid and leaves. However, Seo Yul later tells her that she can continue serving Jang Uk like always but asked her to promise him in helping take someone with him when he leaves.

At Sejukwon, Heo Yeom is surprised and happy that Jang Uk has reached Chisu and shares the news with Park Jin. They then go to Jang Uk who tells them that master Lee has been helping him and it must have something to do with Kim Do-ju. This leaves Park Jin speechless, especially after getting to know that master Lee is staying at the Jang family how, while the two rejoice.
Park Jin is not convinced by this because he believes that Kim Do-ju is still in love with Jang Kang. He goes to meet Kim Do-ju but does not enter. Master Lee sees a picture of Do Hwa and Kim Do-ju talks about her while murmuring that Park Jin must still be in love with her because her beauty is forever.

Back in Sejukwon, Jang Uk is unable to meet Mu-deok because of the crown prince’s order. On the other hand, she is with Seo Yul who talks about birds and his whistle and this is witnessed by Jang Uk and Park Dong-gu. It is then revealed that the reason why Mu-deok hasn’t met Jang Uk is that she does not have the jade.
Elsewhere, some people are spreading rumours about Jang Uk. In the palace, Heo Yoon-ok who is treating the king suggests he ask master Lee for help. While in Jinyowon, Jin Ho-kyung is getting restless for her eldest daughter while her husband sneakily takes what seems like a blood strand from Jin Cho-yeon.

While Mu-deok is cleaning Park Jin’s office, he comes back and their chat makes him curious about her origin. He sends Sang Ho to investigate her who is told that the broker who got her is in the city. In Cheonbugwan, Jin Mu tells So Yi that she will soon be taken to Jinyowon but before that he shows her the scene of a soul shifter feeding on the women who saw her on the boat. This terrifies So Yi as she is made to tell who else can identify her.
Elsewhere, Mu-deok comes across the crown prince who is searching for the jade and tells him that she had already found it. Later, he leaves when some pupils tell him that he can meet master Lee. However, once he leaves the people bully Mu-deok but stop when the crown prince comes to save her.
She then rushes to meet Jang Uk with the jade but stops when she sees Jang Uk with Heo Yoon-ok. He asks her why she was late and rushing and she recounts the pupils who thought that Jang Uk is practising chastity. He says that it is not true and hugs her to prove it. But she is angered and says that he must not think of her as a woman, telling him to go embrace the pretty lady (Heo Yoon-ok).

He tells her not to regret saying that and then goes in to kiss her. He then tells her that he went by her teachings of attacking the opponent when least expected. Next, he informs her that he will be accompanying master Lee to the palace and this is a good chance to meet the queen again. Mu-deok tells him to be safe and while he is leaving she stops him and shows the blue jade.
Alchemy of Souls Episode 14 Ending
Master Lee leaves for the palace with Jang Uk, Seo Yul and Park Dang-gu while the broker enters Songrim on Park Jin’s orders. He lies to Park Jin about Mu-deok’s eyes which keeps her secret hidden, and when she asks him why he did that he reveals that he had been paid to lie. It is revealed that Jang Uk had paid Ju Wol to take care of anyone who wants to find out about Mu-deok.
Mu-deok later decides to go visit the broker once again to get more details about So Yi, however, she finds him dead in the inn. In the palace, the king asks master Lee about his secret for looking so young. Master Lee reveals that this is not his original body and that he is a soul shifter. He also tells him that he can recognise other soul shifters which leave everyone present shocked.

Back in the inn, Park Jin finds Mu-deok with the dead broker and blames her for the murder.
Alchemy of Souls Episode 14 Review
Today’s episode had a lot of up moments and we are not complaining. The duel between Jang Uk and Seo Yul, Jang Uk reaching Chisu, Jang Uk kissing Mu-deok and the finale is master Lee being a soul shifter.
Master Lee really is a mystery and even the queen, who is definitely a very old shaman, seemed surprised by this revelation. This only makes the next episode more exciting.
While this episode was fun, it looks like Mu-deok is soon going to fall into even bigger trouble. Not only is she Naksu but is also the real daughter of Jin Ho-kyung, and they are both targets of Jin Mu. So when this is revealed to him, he would definitely think that the heavens are helping him.
But it also looks like Mu-deok is slowly getting interested in the real identity of the body. If she is able to figure this out then it will be a big help in saving herself in the future.
I also have to say that Seo Yul is one sneaky second lead and I’m loving this! While there is a huge probability that he’ll let go of Mu-deok in the end, I wonder how his promise will work out.
The questions for today are, what was that red strand that Jin Cho-yeon’s took out of her neck? How has master Lee been able to not go wild if he is a soul shifter? How will Mu-deok get herself out of Park Jin’s accusations?
Also, do you think that today was an episode that showed the could-be ships: Jang Uk and Heo Yoon-ok, and Seo Yul and Mu-deok? All while showing the real pair- Jang Uk and Mu-deok.

Red strand is a blood strand. It will be used to help So-I open the door to the artifact cave. It’s the final test to prove she’s a legitimate descendant. Remember the Mu-Deok can open the door – that was our first hint that she’s not just a weak, formerly blind and ordinary girl
