Perfect Crown Episode 8 Review
What Happened In This Episode?
Hee-ju wakes up, and Yian is finally relieved. He hugs her tightly, showing how worried he became when she collapsed during their wedding celebration. We then learn that Hee-ju collapsed because someone poisoned her drink. Additionally, the goblet she drank from was intended for Yian, meaning he was the intended target.
The investigation starts to find the wandering criminal. Hee-ju comes to the Palace again as the Grand Princess, and Yian takes extra care of her. Their relationship seems to blossom beautifully. After their marriage, on their first night, the two have a small moment of genuine, intimate love.

Soon, tensions rise as serious news breaks out. Just when Hee-ju proudly explains her life journey and how she became a Princess, news about Yian and Hee-ju’s contract marriage, set to end in three years, breaks out. The media goes crazy, and Hee-ju is followed and almost mobbed. Yian steps in to protect her from the frenzy, and the episode concludes with a subtle sign showing that their relationship is going to have troubles.
Performances
Hee-ju’s vulnerability is well portrayed by IU. We can see how strong yet fragile she is. Just when she thinks she’s going to get an identity, the contract news puts her into heavy trauma. Already she’s healing from the attempted murder, and now she has to face the media’s rough questions.
Meanwhile, Byeon Woo-seok, who stars as Yian, has done a great job in expressing the love of a true lover. The way he cares for Hee-ju is well expressed. We can see that the actor has really put his effort into working out the chemistry, as we can definitely see the main leads’ romance oozing.

The supporting cast continues to play their roles quite well. Jeong-woo’s character seems to be the one that stands out for me as he remains calm and composed even during chaos.
Themes
The main theme that I feel this episode carries is public image. First of all, Hee-ju wanted to marry Yian because she believed she could finally have a huge identity and stand out in public. She was already a corporate Queen, but she wanted the royal tag beside her for more power. However, in the end, when the news breaks out, almost everything collapses.
Hence, it is evident that the public image desire could build and destroy a person. Likewise, Yian needed the freedom from all the royal duties. He was okay with the royal works but also wanted to feel human. Given that the public looks up to him, the pressure he felt led him to agree to marry Hee-ju. Even if they both are now really in love, the public image that they yearned for has put them in turmoil.

Direction and Editing
The direction is pretty striking in this episode. The hospital scenes where we see Yian overpouring his love on Hee-ju were captured beautifully. These tiny romance scenes add depth to the overall rom-com plot. The pacing feels pretty natural, and the editing is smooth, allowing the audience to absorb what’s going on.
The sudden media reveal towards the end feels intentionally abrupt, mirroring the shock experienced by the characters. Visually, the episode maintains its elegance. Especially during the academy scene, we see how they’ve shown the contrast. From Hee-ju having the best time of her life to the chaos she immediately endures, the transition worked great.
What is it missing?

A huge murder attempt happened, and the investigation started, but did it develop? No. I wanted to see more of the investigation, how seriously they take this issue and how it affects Yian and Hee-ju. Rather too much of their romance had focus. I mean, it is good because it is a rom-com, but hey? a murder attempt? So we needed some extra details.
Additionally, while Yi-rang and Lord Ilpyeong’s involvement seems to be present, their motives still seem unexplored.
Final Thoughts
Perfect Crown Episode 8 is a great balance of romance and suspense with Yian and Hee-ju bonding and the problems that surround them silently. Also, the final twist not only raises the stakes but also challenges Yian and Hee-ju’s relationship. Will it work now? Will they break up? Or will their bond strengthen much? We will know all the details in the upcoming episodes.
