Phantom Lawyer Episode 14 Review

What happens after Yi-rang meets his father?
Yi-rang becomes very agitated after meeting his father and decides not to go on his date anymore. He also goes to Na-hyun to let her know about it, and also asks her not to come to the office for some time. This baffles Na-hyun, who has no idea what just happened and why Yi-rang is doing something like this. She realises that he is upset with something, but she does not force him to reveal it.
On the other hand, Yi-rang also behaves very badly with his father, who has no idea who he is, as he has yet to learn his name. Yi-rang lets his father know that he will not be taking his case and will make him pass on as soon as possible.
What was his father’s response to Yi-rang’s behaviour?

Ki-joong, Yi-rang’s father, genuinely comes off as a very agreeable man who is also quite gentle in his conduct. He is very well spoken and polite whenever he asks for something. Thus, he asks Yi-rang why he hates him so much. He also questions Yi-rang about why he would not disclose more information about him before letting him go. However, that is when Yi-rang just blames him for ruining an innocent individual’s life and does not say anything anymore.
Does Yi-rang genuinely hate his father?
Throughout this episode, it becomes clear that Yi-rang had a very loving childhood, and his father used to spend plenty of time with him. He played with Yi-rang and also gave him very good advice on everything. Thus, when his family was at its lowest point, after his father’s death, Yi-rang developed a hatred for his father. However, somewhere within his heart, he still had love for him, which is why he asked his father why he did such a heinous thing when he was alive. Ki-joong obviously had no answer to that question.

Does Yi-rang give up on his father?
Yi-rang goes directly to Do-kyung’s father and asks about the case that his father was working on. Though he does not get very concrete information, Yi-rang learns about an important detective who could shed some light on Ki-joong.
What did Yi-rang find out?
The detective tells Yi-rang how his father was a crooked man, and it was Do-kyung’s father who was an upstanding and good prosecutor. But later, we get to know that this was all planned by Do-kyung’s father in the first place. However, this does not stop Yi-rang from believing in Ki-joong in the end.
He decides to make his father remember his actual self.

What worked and what did not work?
This episode was mostly emotional and focused a lot more on the internal conflict that Yi-rang goes through. This is why we did not get much story-wise, and it felt like they stretched the whole inner turmoil aspect a bit too much.
Other than that, the actors, as usual, did a phenomenal job of delivering their roles.
