From a Rocky Start to Partners in Crime, the Leads Have Come a Long Way

Kang-wook and Yeo-ri might not have begun their relationship journey on a very positive note, but they ended up becoming pretty good assists for each other. In this episode, Kang-wook becomes crucial in Yeo-ri’s life; not just by pretending to love her, he essentially saved her from a forced marriage she never really wanted.

Funnily enough, even though everyone else thinks that their display of affection was nothing but a farce, we as the audience know very well that Kang-wook actually likes Yeo-ri a lot. And not only us, but there is a high chance that Min-hwan is also aware of that very well. When Kang-wook confesses his love to prove the reality of their relationship, there was ample conviction behind his words.

The Second Male Lead’s Manipulative Side Is Becoming Harder to Ignore

Gone are the days when the second male lead characters were nothing but pitiable options for the protagonists. Nowadays, many more series are taking the approach of transforming their second leads into antagonistic figures rather than introducing a brand new character to spice up the story. Honestly, this works very well because the second leads already have a legitimate reason for being a nuisance in the hero and heroine’s lives. On top of that, if pulled perfectly, an antagonistic character comes off as a far more charming counterpoint to the obviously goody-two-shoes hero.

In this series as well, Min-hwan is slowly maturing into that kind of role. Even though his villainy is not yet outright shown, it is apparent there is something wrong with him. He has extremely manipulative tendencies, and behind the scenes he comes off as a pretty shady character.

Kang-wook and Yeo-ri’s Romance Feels Refreshingly Natural

The reason why the romance between Kang-wook and Yeo-ri feels so much more organic is that their relationship gets ample time. There is very little rush in this series, and this helps both the characters come off as genuine to the audience. On top of that, they sell the awkward first-time couple role pretty well.

From the way they treat each other, it is apparent to the audience that they like each other but are too disconnected to actually confess.

The Touch of Mystery Became a Lot More Prominent

The mystery behind the different cases Yeo-ri takes on is interesting, but her past is another important part of the story. We also learn that Min-hwan’s brother was in love with Yeo-ri, and his death is what caused her to start seeing ghosts. Now that Kang-wook wants to help Yeo-ri find out what really happened in the past, the story could become much more complicated. Min-hwan should also have an important role to play and could end up being one of the most important pieces of the story.

Final Thoughts

Some might not like the slow growth between Kang-wook and Yeo-ri; it has already been the 7th episode, and we have hardly seen any prominent romantic moments between the two. However, personally, this feels like the most realistic progression for two characters who just met two months ago. Even though there is genuine chemistry between them, they should get ample time to know each other, which they are getting in this series. Plus, the fact that these are two very good actors only helps make the story more believable to us.
