My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Season 1 Episode 13 Recap

The episode opens with Pop Step basking in the attention she’s received after her impressive performance. The fan mail and newfound recognition make her genuinely happy, as she finally feels her abilities are being put to good use. Koichi shares in her joy and is clearly proud of her progress. However, the lighthearted tone doesn’t last long. Koichi soon crosses paths with another formidable villain, and Captain Celebrity arrives just in time to bail him out.

Koichi and Pop Step talk about this unsettling trend and note that these enemies feel different from those affected by the Trigger drug. The mystery deepens when the police bring the issue to Aizawa, suggesting that the villains’ bodies may have been artificially modified to withstand extreme doses of Trigger without collapsing.

Elsewhere, Captain Celebrity teams up with Ingenium for a commercial shoot, but the situation quickly spirals out of control. A shadowy figure connected to Hachisuka unleashes chaos by causing a massive accident. On top of that, the bat-type villain previously defeated by Ingenium resurfaces, seeking revenge against everyone involved in his arrest, including Koichi.

What follows is pure chaos. While the incident threatens to damage Koichi’s reputation as a hero, it also forces Captain Celebrity to recognise how vital Koichi’s presence truly is.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Season 2 Episode 1 Review

It feels great to see the continuation of the My Hero Academia world after the main series ended a few months ago. Fans can finally be happy again by seeing some beloved characters return with this anime, which tells a story that takes place before the original timeline. This episode begins just like how My Hero Academia starts, with the monologue of the hero himself, Koichi, a vigilante hero who just wants to do good. He starts everything with a description of who the hero vigilantes are and how they operate, and right off the bat, we get a decent introduction to the world of this series.

The story begins with Pop Step and Koichi going to Osaka, as she will be participating in a collaboration project with local idols. Here, due to some unforeseen accident, Koichi discovers a new aspect of his quirk. Apparently, he can control the pressure he exerts through his arms and legs, with which he navigates or glides when moving. By doing this, he can now stay stuck to a surface, opening up many more possibilities with the way his ability can be used.

But that is not all, we also get to see a younger version of Fat Gum apprehending a villain. He gets acquainted with Pop Step and Koichi, without knowing that they will be forced to come face to face later. Fat Gum is supposed to conduct a major drug bust at a mall, which also happens to be the place where Pop Step will perform. Needless to say, both Koichi and Pop Step are about to get involved in something they did not sign up for, and we will get to know more about it in the next episode.

Verdict

This episode had decent animation, and the story was interesting enough for the first episode. I specifically loved the element of Koichi figuring out a new way to utilise his powers. I am sure he will be able to be a better vigilante hero from here on and take a more active role in his fights. But above all, I am just glad that My Hero Academia has returned in some way for fans to love and appreciate its world again.
