The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity Episode 5 Recap

The episode begins with Saku and the others discovering Rintaro’s connection with Kaoruko. Shocked by the revelation, they confront him about why he chose to hide a relationship with someone from a rival school. Rintaro, however, refuses to explain and firmly states that he doesn’t want to share anything about her. Later at home, he reflects on his outburst and scolds himself for acting that way in front of his friends. At the same time, he feels thankful to Kaoruko for her support and decides he should express his gratitude. We then see him messaging her that he passed the exam, crediting her encouragement and efforts for his success.

Meanwhile, Rintaro’s friends attempt to patch things up between him and Saku, but their awkwardness keeps them from reconciling. Eventually, Saku admits that he isn’t upset about Rintaro befriending Kaoruko; rather, he feels hurt that Rintaro didn’t trust him or the others enough to be honest. Through this exchange, Rintaro, for the first time, openly voices how he feels, admitting that he doesn’t want to discuss his emotions. This moment marks an important step forward in his growth.

Elsewhere, Waguri stops by the shop to buy cake and ends up meeting Rintaro. Sensing that something is troubling him, she shares a tender moment with him that feels sweet and heartwarming.

The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity Episode 6 Review

This episode starts with Subaru confessing to Kaoruko that she went behind her back to tell Rintaro to stop talking to Kaoruko. Subaru expected to get reprimanded or scolded, but Kaoruko does none of that. She doesn’t tell her off and only accepts the fact that she understands why Subaru did what she did. It is indeed a difficult thing for students of Kikyo to talk to students from Chidori, which is why she agrees that whatever Subaru did was because she wanted the best for Kaoruko.

However, this breaks Subaru even more because she realises just how selfish she was being in the first place. The guilt made things unbearable for her, and she finally crumbled and profusely asked for forgiveness from her friend. She keeps on blaming herself and suffers from self-loathing.  This interaction was really heartbreaking but also wholesome as Kaoruko wholeheartedly accepted Subaru by claiming how much she loves her.

Kaoruko also finally confesses that she is in love with Rintaro, and, in turn, gets to know that he refused Subaru when she asked him not to meet Kaoruko anymore.

This interaction was indeed restorative as Subaru finally learns to accept herself through Kaoruko. After this, Subaru also becomes very accepting of the relationship between Rintaro and Kaoruko. This is why, when Rintaro asks to meet Subaru, she readily agrees and has a proper chat with him. Hilariously, after meeting Subaru, Rintaro just asks her what he can do to meet Kaoruko properly, to which she just replies that she is not Kaoruko’s mother.

The bond between Subaru and Rintaro also becomes better, and now they are on their way to becoming good friends. Hopefully, our main pair will not face any more problems from anyone else.

Verdict

Today’s episode was a lot better and had much more depth than the other episodes. It also felt important for the development of the overall narrative structure of the story. I also liked the character growth that happened within Subaru.
