Dandadan Episode 3 Recap

Dandadan Episode 4 Review

In this episode, we finally get to meet Momo’s legendary grandmother, who also happens to be a psychic and shaman. But don’t be fooled by her age—this grandmother is far too cool to be called an “old hag” like Momo sometimes does. She’s a stylish fashionista and an incredibly skilled psychic with a sharp wit, which becomes evident as the episode progresses.

But her most impressive trait is knowing how to wield a baseball bat with deadly precision. When she encounters Okarun after he’s taken over by Turbo Granny, she fiercely defends her granddaughter by giving him a serious beatdown. Through her, we also learn more about her abilities, particularly her skill in creating barriers that both protect humans and harm spirits. Later, she comes up with a plan to help Okarun reclaim what he’s lost.

However, the episode reveals that Turbo Granny might be more than just a regular spirit. It seems she’s fused with a location-bound entity, which makes her even more dangerous. Since these spirits are nearly invincible within their own territory, Momo and Okarun will need to figure out how to lure her out if they want any chance of defeating her.

Dandadan Episode 4 Review

It is time for the final showdown between the Turbo Granny and our protagonists, Okarun and Momo. Both of them ready themselves to enter the tunnel where our hero lost his balls. Plus, feeling powerful and optimistic, Momo even comments how she might even be strong enough to take down the mighty Turbo Granny without making her leave the city. However, one look at the abomination in front of them makes our heroine humble enough to understand how she is not yet on that level.

This is where the battle of the season begins, and all hell breaks loose. Here, not only the Granny, we also witness the emergence of the spirit that is bound to the tunnel. It manifests itself as a giant crab and comes to the rescue of Granny after Okarun and forces her spirit to enter his body when he attacks her tits. A scuffle ensues, and Momo uses everything in her arsenal to try and get themselves out of the city as quickly as possible.

Dandadan Episode 4 Review

In the beginning, Momo thinks of challenging Granny in a game of tug of war, as it is infamous that Turbo Granny never turns down a challenge made to her speed. However, what she did not expect was the very crafty old woman to count at a ridiculous pace, cheating her away to victory. In such a scenario, it is entirely up to Momo and Okarun to save themselves against 2 of the strongest spirits.

This episode was visually stunning as the colour scheme became entirely red in the first half of the episode. This decision does a good job of reminding you how dangerous the situation is. I also loved the fact that they used classical music to portray the chase scene between the protagonists and the ghosts, making the entire setting hype, but, at the same time, pretty comical.

Verdict

I absolutely loved this episode yet again. The ability this anime has to subvert your expectations and show you things that you never expected to see is brilliant. On top of that, it doesn’t forget to give us a glimpse at the steadily blossoming romance between our protagonists. Now, the question remains whether Okarun really got his balls back or not.
