RSVP Movies has dropped the full Sam Bahadur trailer on November 7, 2023, and Vicky Kaushal has taken on his role as India’s first Field Marshal, Sam Manekshaw, with glorious pride. Fiercely stepping into the shoes of one of India’s greatest soldiers, Kaushal has ditched his former comical avatar and assumed his position as the leading force in the upcoming Hindi biographical war drama film directed by Meghna Gulzar.
Releasing in theatres on December 1, 2023, the movie has been co-written by Gulzar, along with Bhavani Iyer and Shantanu Srivastavas. The Sam Bahadur movie also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh, who equally settles well into her prominent role as the former Prime Minister of India, Smt Indira Gandhi. The 2 minutes 43 seconds long trailer of the Hindi film commences on an intense note, as Kaushal swears by his role of leadership and his indomitable gaze pierces us through and through.

His commanding voice affirms what it means to be a brave “Jawan” in the battlefield, as he finds glory in fighting for the downtrodden without any fears of the outcome. The only thing that matters to him is a soldier’s loyal allegiance to the battlefield itself regardless of how dire the situation may get. The scenes that follow feature him sitting down with noteworthy Indian politicians like Pt Jawaharlal Nehru and others. While they embark on their diplomatic interventions, Kaushal, as Sam Manekshaw, brings alive the soldier’s 40 years in uniform and his contribution to the Indian Army.
He and the rest of the squad are more interested in breaking through with victory for India on the battlefield, instead of merely resuming the “normal” rigmarole that’s entrapped them for so long. The trailer offers us a heavy glimpse into how the Field Marshal’s character is roped in as a significant presence in the Indian Army, but also how he ensues into a conflict with politics.

Produced by Ronnie Screwvala, the film also stars Sanya Malhotra as Silloo Manekshaw, Neeraj Kabi as Jawaharlal Nehru, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as Yahya Khan, Edward Sonnenblick as Lord Mountbatten, Govind Namdev as Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and others. Based on real events, the movie is centred around the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War that eventually led to the creation of Bangladesh.
