The Railway Men Trailer: R Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Divyenndu and Babil Khan Bring The Story of the World’s Worst Industrial Disaster

Netflix has finally dropped The Railway Men trailer, originally titled The Railway Men The Untold Story of Bhopal 1984, on November 6, 2023. Based on the true-life events of the Bhopal gas tragedy that killed at least 3,800 people and caused significant morbidity and premature deaths for thousands more, the series is directed and written by Shiv Rawail along with Aayush Gupta. The show stars R Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Divyendu Sharma (Divyenndu), Babil Khan, Juhi Chawla and others.

Consisting of 4 episodes, the upcoming limited mini-series premieres on Netflix on November 18, 2023. In this gripping trailer, we see the story of December 2, 1984, where Kay Kay Menon plays the role of the Travelling Ticket Examiner who is emphasising that in their job, they can’t be distracted because if they do, there is no second chance. On the other hand, Babil Khan plays the role of Imad Riaz, and it is his first day at work in the railways, and Divyenndu is a police inspector.

The atmosphere on the railway was typically filled with joy and contentment, just like any other day. Little did we know, disaster was about to strike with the gas leak at Union Carbide. Concern rippled through the crowd as questions about the gas’s effects swirled. Despite reassurances that it wasn’t lethal, those were merely the words of the company’s official stance. In reality, the gas proved fatally potent, claiming lives within mere moments of inhalation. There was no remedy in sight. The entire railway staff scrambled to rescue passengers and those present at the Bhopal railway station. With no antidote available, the daunting task of saving lives became nearly impossible, and the station transformed into a sombre memorial ground.

Then enters the GM of the central railways, Rati Panday, played by R Madhavan. He says that at the time, Bhopal Junction had disappeared from the Railways map. They were trying to contact people for help, but they were failing to do so as well, and the people in power refused to help them, as everyone was scared to enter Bhopal and was not ready to take the risk.

But these four people didn’t stop there. They did every thing possible to save the people of Bhopal. The trailer is full of emotion, which may even bring tears to your eyes, as this is one of those stories that we have known our entire lives, and studied in schools, but we might not be aware of the real-life heroes who stood up for Bhopal when it needed it the most.
