The Wheel of Time Season 2 Review (Ep 1 to 3): It Is Not a Promising Start and That Says a Lot!

It is not a very happening time to be a TWOT fan because the season two premiere promises us more or less nothing. We left the last season after a battle that just was hinted to be the start of the bigger one to come. However, the way characters move and the story flows in the first three episodes, it does not look like there is any battle that can happen in the blink of an eye (although, the Dark One is active, recruiting and attacking people).

The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 1 starts with bridging the gap between us and the characters and where they are from the last season. Moiraine, who has now lost the power to channel, has busied herself in the search to help Rand defeat the Dark One. In this process, she has shut her Warder Lan away and they are in a turbulent place.

Nynaeve and Egwane are in the White Tower. The two are preparing to be accepted as Aes Sedai, clothed in white as a recruit and training. Egwane is more curious and accepting of the ways and the training where Nynaeve is seen constantly rebelling. The two are trying their best to channel after fighting the huge battle last season. Perrin, on the other hand, is still seeing visions but, is now an active part of a moving solider party.

The two most disturbing characters- Rand and Mat are also present. We see both of their storylines be highlighted more as we pass onto The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 2. Mat is in some prison by Liandrin, who is still not sure of where Mat stands as a person after being so deeply connected to the dark knife. Rand has a new look that screams outcast with a head shaved and brooding eyes. He is working in taking care of the men consumed by power, gentled helpless and old.

Very much like the previous season, in this one too we have multiple storylines playing out as the characters are spread all across. There is a good amount of character-building done but, most of it feels purposeless- except for maybe Moiraine and Nynaeve. By the third episode, things seem hopeful and exciting.

The Wheel of Time Season 2 (Ep 1-3): Final Thoughts

One of the biggest attractions of The Wheel of Time Season 2 was supposed to be the presence of the Dark One and his power. But the premiere does not delve much into that, nor does it make it clear who the sea-fleet villain from the last season is. There are a lot of clarifications the episodes demand and if they don’t clear up things sooner, a mess is inevitable.

You can watch the first three episodes of The Wheel of Time Season 2 now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
