Revenant Episode 2 Recap

Hae-sang unlocks late Hyunwoo’s home, but before he can enter inside and investigate, his parents arrive. They become alert when a child’s wailing is heard, and so they threaten Hae-sang to leave. Meanwhile, San-young rushes out of the house along with the teenager after seeing the ghost of Hyunwoo.

San-young interrogates the teenager about Hyunwoo and his cause of death, revealing a bizarre flashback where he jumps off the cliff after requesting the teenagers to update him about his house. He also adds that Hyunwoo has always kept talking about a sibling he never had. San-young then starts seeing Hyunwoo’s spirit leading her to his house. She rushes as per his guidance.

On the other hand, Hae-sang finds a window pane in a hideous room and finds a small child trapped. Just when he could report it to the police, he gets knocked down by Hyunwoo’s father. Hae-sang gets locked in the same room with the child, and he overhears the parents worried about Hyunwoo’s missing phone.

Hae-sang makes use of the glass pieces in the room and unties him. He then breaks the window pane to let the child out. Hearing the noise, Hyunwoo’s father tries to break the room door that Hae-sang shields. The child struggles to escape, but thankfully San-young comes to the spot and pulls the child out. Then the cops arrive, and the parents get arrested. After this, the spirit of Hyunwoo fades into thin air.

Despite the events, San-young denies believing in evil spirits. The next day she goes along with her friend to an old schoolmate’s wedding invite. Over there, she meets with the police detective who inquired about her previously. A flashback is shown here where we can see San-young never bothering about him, but the latter has had his eyes on her.

In the following scenes, San-young finds herself scratching a doll’s face with a knife. She comes to her senses and throws the doll, and runs to the subway, where, in the mirror, she comes face to face with the evil spirit. Her instincts then guide her back to her paternal grandmother’s home, where Hae-sang also visits to collect the cursed object.

Sadly, San-young reaches late because the evil spirit impersonates her and kills her grandmother. Hae-sang and San-young try to save her but the evil spirit overpowers. Moreover, it also burns an important book. The detectives start to find a link between all the suicide cases and the burnt wrist marks they all have had.

San-young goes to Hae-sang’s apartment and discloses a page in the book she saw (before it burned). She draws the map from her memory and the duo realise that it is the place of the spirit’s origin.

After a night full of searches, Hae-sang and San-young find a place similar to that on the Korean map. Then we are shown another backstory where young female children are taken to a secluded place in the year 1958. Over there, a woman dressed royal looks at all the young girls, along with the same cursed object in her hand.

Then in a private room, the lady gives a desperate girl (covered in a blanket) a plate full of raw meat. The starving girl tries to reach it but before that, the woman stabs her and gives a grim smile. The blood of the victim splashes on the cursed object.

Revenant Episode 2 Review

Hyunwoo’s story was really heart-touching, and the directors have re-instated how abusive some parents can be. Apart from this life lesson, the directors are building the story quite rapidly not to make the viewers wait for long. There’s still a lot of suspense pending to be uncovered. However, the series has way too much of emotional scenes that overshadow the concept of Horror.

As a Horror fan, the series hasn’t offered any heart-pouncing jumpscares yet, so hopefully, in the upcoming episodes, I’ll experience some goosebumps.
