Tour De France Unchained Reactions: Cycling Enthusiasts Welcome Amateurs to the Intense Gruelling Sport

There is a new Netflix docuseries in the ether, and people have been raging about it in Tour De France Unchained Reactions. This series stars Gerard Camy and is produced by James Gay-Rees, Amelia Hann, Yann Le Bourbouach and Paul Martin. The series follows cyclists committing to take part in one of the most prestigious circuits in the recent past. What most people don’t realise is that this competition involves years of practice, months of preparation and a steel-like determination to make sure people come out at the top.

The circuit for Tour De France 2022 was 3,328 kilometres in distance. However, the whole circuit will not be covered at once. Cyclists will be given a chance to prove themselves in stages, of which there are 21 in the aforementioned edition of the competition. Moreover, this is not an individualistic sport. All of the cyclists come in teams, like a pack making sure they carry their leader to victory. In case anyone thought this sport could be civilised and calm, they would be dead wrong.

In the series, we see cyclists lose control of their bikes, fall over and cause crashes that hold up multiple teams at a time. The intensity of the sport is so high that this is just an occupational hazard for all of them now. However, viewers note that the sport has been hyped up just like it is done in Drive to Survive. But this show manages to leave some things out and doesn’t communicate changes with the audiences very well. Some have also shared how the producers managed to exclude one of the biggest competitions, and that is the women’s peloton.

Even with all these limitations, viewers do not miss out on mentioning that the series is incredibly catchy, hooking them in with the first episode itself. Some have even declared their teams and chosen exactly whom they are rallying behind in this season of the tour. Some have taken this series as a way to induct people into the sport of cycling because of the exciting renditions in the series. It manages to pull viewers in and already make them root for teams without even seeing all of them.

Another thing that makes this series so fascinating is the fact that they managed to cover a long and extensive race in 8 episodes. There are many ways this works, but having to make sure we follow behind every team becomes difficult. The producers do have to cut back on individual timing and instead focus on the stages themselves, but that is what makes the show interesting to follow.
