One of the most popular anime of our time, Demon Slayer, is back on our screens with the Swordsmith Village Arc. Ufotable is the studio behind Demon Slayer’s anime adaptation, and Haruo Sotozaki will direct the series. It is to be noted that only the first episode was a double-length episode, followed by standard episodes in the future. You can read our review of the Mugen Train movie while you’re at it. Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba Season 3 Episode 3 Review- An Old Sword

300 year old sword Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 3

This was just a delightful episode. The show was operating at its absolute highest level in this episode, and everything that it did worked very well. Let’s talk about everything one by one- starting with comedy first. I am not the biggest fan of this show’s comedy, but it has funny and unfunny episodes, and this was definitely a funny one. The dynamic between Kotetsu, Tanjiro, and Haganezuka was fantastic, and Kotetsu’s childish yet mean barbs mashed very well with Haganezuka’s also childish demeanour.

And that wasn’t all that was funny about this. Tanjiro also had a couple of great interactions with Genya, who has been a rather forgettable character so far, so much so that I forgot about the interaction Tanjiro and he had had previously when Tanjiro almost broke Genya’s arm. His presence in this arc is weird, as he doesn’t seem to be a character important enough to appear at these stages of the show. However, what he did in Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 3 was still great and even admirable.

Multiplying Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 3

The plot progression of Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village Episode 3 was a little weird, as things just got very real very quickly. One moment, Tanjiro was bickering with Genya about a tooth that he recovered, and at the very next, a swordsmith died at the hands of a demon who had launched a full-fletched attack on the village. Please forgive me for revealing as much about the episode, as there wouldn’t have been much to talk about otherwise, and you can see most of what happened in the screenshots anyway.

The demon that we are currently seeing is extremely interesting and seems to have been created just to play off of what we already know to be true about the demons. The regeneration of them, how to kill them, and their powers are all things that the characters are constantly trying to figure out in order just to stay alive long enough to compete against their might. When demons like these come along, it makes things a lot more interesting and dangerous for the main characters. Also makes things much more interesting for the audience as every demon then becomes a puzzle that the characters have to solve to survive.

The production of ufotable was also in top form, as the show looked great during the tense fighting scenes, as well as the easygoing slice-of-life parts. The animators’ lives have also been made easier by the fact that, according to the show’s lore, the demons are at their strongest in the dark and can’t stay in the light, so they can animate all of these fighting scenes that happen at night to their heart’s content. They manage to make it look amazing every time, so I’m not complaining.

Verdict

Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 3 was a fantastic outing that showcased everything that’s great about this series and moved the plot forward to make it much more dynamic and happening.
