Treason Ending Explained

The fifth and the final episode of the series brings about a major twist. Alex Kingston’s Audrey’s hopes of becoming the new PM seemed to have been shattered when delicate information about her was outed by Adam using the confidential file kept by Angelis, one of many he had on him to blackmail key political players in the game after their election.

Adam takes this as an opportunity to clear out his name for good, having been falsely accused of playing both sides, only for Angelis to remove him from the board. He gets his wife, Maddy to reach out to Audrey and expose Angelis’ true colours, while promising her that they will retrieve the hard drive keeping all these files safes in return for their family’s immunity. Maddy accomplishes in convincing her after putting in some effort, while Adam and Kara get on with the mission to track down Olamide to get to the files.

As the two team-up to ambush Angelis’ operation, he also brings in Dede from the CIA on to his side, while selling Adam’s false image. During the ambush, Kara kills Olamide and Maddy reaches there to help them in the meantime as well. She grabs hold of the drive from another employee, but Dede gets the upper hand as she corners Adam. She gives Maddy a chance to trade the files for Adam’s life, but ultimately the crossfire ends on a blood note as Dede shoots him. Kara holds her back from running to her husband while he lives out his last breath.

Moreover, in the process of finding the drive, Kara also discovers that MI6 believes Adam to be a double agent named Dorian, who was also responsible for killing all of Kara’s men during their mission in Baku. She, however, knows better that Adam isn’t the man she was looking for because he was with her when all her people were attacked by Dorian, she later explains this to Maddy as well. Angelis makes the situation worse by pulling another lie about Kara killing Adam instead of Dede while informing the rest of MI6 team.

While Maddy is still in shock about what has unfolded with her husband’s death, she gives Audrey a call about having secured the files, while also informing her about Adam’s death. Audrey, on the other hand, makes her blood boil by saying that she needs to return the files to Angelis as they’ve already caused them a lot of trouble.

Kara then gives her Russian associate a call and makes it seem as if she’s crossing her way with Maddy by handing over the files to the other woman on the phone. However, it’s soon revealed to be a part of the plan and both of them team up to find out who the real Dorian is.

At the arranged press conference meeting, Angelis seems to be winning with his argument about Adam being the bad guy all along. Simultaneously, Maddy and Patrick cross paths and the former is able to defend herself from him while also realising that he is Dorian. Eventually, the files land up with Kara, who outs all the footage during the committee gathering and finally reveals Angelis’ dark plans of conspiracy and blackmail against all his fellow political leaders.

Kara bumps into Patrick outside the building and slips an old photograph of her team into his pocket. He doesn’t notice it instantly, but once he gets into the car, he unfolds the possession in his pocket, which unleashes a poison within seconds and kills him. The final outcome of the series is that even though Adam dies in order to save his family, his name is cleared up with Angelis now arrested. Kara decides to return to Russia while Maddy comes back to her children, leaving a threat behind for Dede and her actions.

Will There Be a Treason Season 2

Netflix has promoted Treason as a limited series only at this point. Additionally, the overall plot seems to have been covered already with allegations of Adam having committed treason against his country now out of the way, and the real culprit behind bars. However, the platform may surprise us with a renewal if it feels like it eventually, even though the chances of the same seem pretty low, after all, some of may be interested in seeing Kara and Maddy team up again for another ride.

Some other questions like – Does Maddy out Dede’s secret of having killed Adam? Does Angelis have any other tricks up his sleeve, or is he gone for good? – may still be perturbing fans as well. So, we’re just going to have to wait and watch what happens in the end. For now there’s no news of the show coming back for a second round.

All five episodes of Treason are now streaming on Netflix.
