Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 6 Review- Unconvincing

Face to Face Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 6

There was a lot to love about this episode. We have been discussing what makes this series great since we started this review series, and most of that is factored in here. The production, the characters, and the writing were all great at various sections in this episode and made it an extremely entertaining watch. The premise was extremely solid going into it, as having insulted Mob, Dimple faced the wrath of the strongest psychic in the world. However, it didn’t turn out the way any of us quite expected it to.

There were many beautifully animated scenes in this episode that featured a lot of action and the most beautiful CGI you will see in anime this side of Makoto Shinkai. The movement was smooth, the colours were vivid, and the 3D looked gorgeous as Dimple got attacked from all sides by various Mobs. It was a feast for the eyes as we got the battle we always deserved as Dimple dug himself into a hole he couldn’t recover from. If you have seen the episode, you know what I am trying to do here, and if you haven’t, you are going to be mightily confused when you do. I win either way.

Cross Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 6

The episode was also quite emotional as it drew upon the history and friendship that Mob and Dimple share. The two have had a sometimes contentious but mostly helpful and friendly relationship throughout the three seasons that we have seen them together, with both of them learning a lot from each other and guiding each other through various challenges. The confrontation was much more contentious in the previous episode, but Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 6 pushed the confrontation in a weird, interesting, and predictable direction.

But, and there always is a but, I am not convinced if the show achieved what it was trying to do. The moments that happened were great, sure, but they weren’t enough for the story it was trying to tell. Mob made several comments in this episode that were meant to make you feel a certain way but just didn’t. It tried to make fun of the lame way it went about doing that itself, but just because you recognise that what you are doing is bad doesn’t make it suddenly more acceptable.

I recognise what the show was trying to do, but I am not convinced that it worked. A traditional battle between ideas would have been preferable to what occurred, even though what happened was still quite good. The end of Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 6 was fantastic and a moment that will have a lasting impact as one of the most poignant endings to an episode, but there were better ways to get here. Overall, this was an episode that was fantastic but had the ability to be even better than that.

Verdict

Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 6 was a great episode that could still have been much better than it was. Some things weren’t realised as well as the show wanted them to be, but it still looked amazing.

    • A 4 isn’t a bad score by any means, and I certainly could see why some would think this to be the best among what we have seen so far. As I said in the review, I just wasn’t convinced with the logic used, and the story told.
