Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 11 Review- Welcome To My World

Revenge is such a funny thing to have in anyone’s life. There are people who have the capability for so much hate that they can hold a grudge for decades, and some even make it their life’s purpose to hate somebody else. Stories based on revenge are also quite numerous and popular in the media, with varying levels of quality and success. This season has also been a revenge story with the background that the entirety of the first season provided, alongside featuring the characters from that season in some form. However, this was Faputa’s story through and through, and this episode made her into almost as tragic of a figure as her mother.

However, revenge has almost always been portrayed as self-destructive, and rightfully so. It holds the capability of destroying lives, both physically and emotionally. Almost every revenge story ends with the revenge-taker realizing the folly of their ways and giving up or perishing while in pursuit of their target. Faputa’s revenge is of a similar nature, one that drives her to the brink of insanity and back and one that is the sole purpose of her existence. This was the episode where she first realized that her purpose might not be as well-rounded as she first thought it to be.

Belaf has been the most fascinating new character in this season by far. He has had an understated but vital role in the story as the only guy who thinks that surviving with the help of Irumyuui’s sacrifice is almost as bad as death itself would be. He was the first resident of Irumyuui, giving everything he had to her and accepting whatever punishment she had in store for her. He played a vital role in this episode, coming face to face with Faputa and bringing Nanachi along with him, finally combining the arcs of all our three original main characters. It was a beautiful moment, and one a character like him deserved.

We stopped talking about the Abyss much when the story of Ganja picked up, but one can’t overstate how dangerous and anti-life it really is. All of Irumyuui’s sacrifices were made for one purpose- for the construction of livable space within the confines of one of the most dangerous places in the world. The sheer uninhabitability of the layer played a huge part in what ultimately happened to Ganja, and just because things were better now, it didn’t mean that the Abyss was going to stop being the way it was. Even worse, Faputa had managed to break open the barrier saving the village from the curse of the Abyss.

Everything that could go wrong went wrong in this episode. There was an extremely emotional moment as the very embodiment of value herself, Faputa, wondered if her staying alive was of any value in this world. The fact that this didn’t even make the top five of the most emotional moments we have had this season speaks volumes about how good this season is. However much you struggle and however many sacrifices you make, the Abyss always comes out on top. Well, that and the viewers, who get to enjoy something this good.
Verdict
Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 11 was a masterfully emotional episode that managed to tie all the themes of this season beautifully while still being an extremely engaging watch.
