Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 8 Overview

Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 8 Review- Welcome To My World

Let’s discuss the previous episode for a while because you know how hard it is to get over it. Akihiko Tsukushi might be a legitimate insane mastermind to be able to write things like this. That was an unhinged thing to put in any series, even in shows that are known for being dark like this one. A child who has been looked down upon her entire life for not having the ability to have kids, making it her one wish as people are dying around her and then watching along as every single one of her babies dies right in front of her eyes is a character that shouldn’t exist anywhere, and yet, here we are.

Who thinks of things like this? How did this thought ever cross a sane mind, one that remained sane enough for the duration to put the thought on paper? Not just that, all of this stings even more because one can recognise how well-written and explained everything is despite being subtle and obtuse in equal parts. That is the magic of this show- to mesmerise you with the characters and places and then rip up everything right in front of your eyes to cause you immeasurable pain. No, I’m not okay. Thanks for asking.

As if that wasn’t enough, the latest episode went into a different possibility regarding Arumyuui and the Cradle of Desire, which alone is enough to make you lose all faith in anything that has ever lived in this world. This was another episode focused almost entirely upon ganja and how this world at the sixth layer of the Abyss came to be, although there was a little Reg and Riko action scattered throughout the runtime. Why the original warning at the start of the season, one about people not coming back as they went, makes a lot more sense now.

This was an astonishingly well-written episode, even with the high standards set by this show. The events that occurred wouldn’t have crossed anyone’s mind as a prediction before the episode but made so much sense as the episode ended that this entire season looks like one carefully constructed narrative where every detail has been meticulously calculated. It would break your heart for somewhat different reasons than the previous one, although its method is no less effective.

One almost starts running out of words to describe how good this is despite being a writer, although the no-spoiler rule also doesn’t help in that regard. As always, the music and animation of this episode were top-notch and stood up to the current high animation standards of the casual anime fan. If these were the seventh and eighth episodes of the show, imagine how horrible (in a good way) the last episodes would be. Not only was this a great standalone outing, but it worked amazingly well with the overall structure and direction of the show. Missing this show right now is a big mistake.
Verdict
Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 8 was another fantastic episode that was just as emotional and character-oriented as the previous one while still making the experience as uncomfortable as possible. This is anime at its best.
