Korean Actor Nam Joo-hyuk who wrapped up his successful drama Twenty-Five Twenty-One in April, had been embroiled in a controversy. He has been facing allegations raised by his ex-schoolmates who accused him of harassment and bullying. Although his representative company Management SOOP, immediately released a statement denying the accusations but the netizens and some media outlets were still accusing him.
However, recently in a report released by Dispatch, the outlet revealed statements from 20 informants, most of them are the actor’s former teachers and classmates, who came forward to dismiss the accusations against him. Dispatch went to interview and fact-check claims regarding the controversy.
In the report, one of his classmates responded that there wasn’t a bullying culture at their school. The kids who were good at studying flock together, and the kids who like sports are together. Likewise, he and Nam Joo-hyuk too made friends with like-minded people. The classmates who spent their second and third years with him in the same class also claimed, that the punishment was very severe at their school.

If any teacher would have known about the bullying or harassment then Nam Joo-hyuk would have been punished and the whole school would have known about it. To add up to it, even the homeroom teacher said that, it was a time of corporal punishment and every teacher would roam around with a stick or iron rod. And as far as he knows, there was no bullying happening at that time.
The other students as well portrayed a mediator-like personality of the Start-Up actor and call the allegations completely false and opposite to his actual personality. Recently in the Korean industry, many celebrities and idols are getting called out for bullying during their school days. Some even retired from the industry or had to leave their music group.
But instances of fake allegations are rampant as well. Although, Dispatch’s detailed report might shed some more light on the allegations and the case can be solved with proper investigation.
