Pirate Gold of Adak Island: Viewers are Freaking Out Over Netflix’s Latest Documentary

Pirate Gold of Adak Island is the recently released reality docuseries on Netflix, which follows a team of treasure hunters on a remote island in the Alaskan wilderness, in search of buried pirate gold worth millions of dollars. Since its release, the audience has been questioning its authenticity and whether the treasure even exists at Adak Island or not.

Many army veterans who served at the island base have come forward and recalled their time at the place but almost everyone mentions that they never heard of the treasure being hidden there. Like in the comments of our review articles. Out of the recently released documentary series, Pirate Gold of Adak Island has been creating the most discourse among social media platforms and online communities.

Of course, the topic of ‘Pirates and their adventures’ has been a popular topic for ages, but to be able to see the living proof of their existence is what made the audience tune into the show. The reactions although have been divided, many people found it engaging and binged watched it in one go. Whereas, many viewers found it a bit frustrating as every episode led to a cliffhanger that ended up being a piece of trash or a bomb instead of actual treasure.

The expedition team as well didn’t seem like they came with their full research about the place and the pirate lore. They had their own presumptions and according to which they tried to search but later on, went after anything that could be remotely related to the treasure. Especially Dr M Jackson was the brain of the team, making strategies and leading others, whereas the other 2 members who apparently lived on the island had no theories or ideas of their own.

They even claimed to have everyone required on the team but if they are dealing with something historical in nature, then they should have an archaeologist as well not just a geographer. If you search up about the hidden treasure at Adak Island, you will come across so many theories and among them, the idea of treasure being at the Red Bluff hills is quite out there.

Maybe the team of Pirate Gold of Adak Island didn’t want to believe in conspiracy theories on the internet, but they could have traced down someone from the army/navy who served there at that time. The personnel would have been a much better guide to tell everything that happened since the records of that time were ruined and nothing could be figured out from it.

Anyway, whether you liked the documentary series or found it baseless drama, it has definitely motivated many people to research the topic and find the treasure. Some have even started looking for ways to contact the Mayor of the Island, Thom Spitler, to ask him if they can join the next expedition. You can even read some theories from our article’s comment section.

  1. Where?? I found this link [posted on reddit. Some of the court documents surrounding the seizure of the steam ship leased by the Pacific Sealer’s Association. This is the one that was carrying the gold before Dwargstof took it. Looks like they made their first stop of many to purchase seal pelts, but then the boat was seized with hardly any gold. Def supports the idea that Dwarg could have made off with it before the seizure

  2. It would be nice to see a treasure hunting show where they can actually find a treasure ????waist of my time…someone already find it and didn’t say anything

  3. They are looking where other people found the “treasure “ but im sorry if i find one can ima keep looking for more cans not stop at 1 ????????‍♂️

  4. This show is 99% bullshit. I was stationed on Adak from 1971 to 1973 with the USNavy. I covered the island very thoroughly and never heard of this treasure. There was never any regulation about digging on the island. The Navy would let you roam the whole island. And hunt the caribou any where you wanted. The Navy tug boat would take you around to the other side of the island and drop you off to hunt and then come back in 3 or 4 days to pick you up, or sooner if you radioed that you had made a kill. The 7 doors of hell is bull. The nuclear facility was a secure area where they refurbished torpedos and it didn’t look anything like the one in the film. In fact I think that a lot of the pictures we nit taken on Adak. Part of them looked like Kodiak or Dutch Harbor. I think that most people that were there had metal detectors and with that many sailors and not much to do the island was pretty well went over. I remember finding old lighters, coins and there was one fellow even found an old rusted pistol. There were quanset huts all around and if you could find one in fair shape they would let you renovate it for a personal camp out. Mine was on a bluff by lake Andrew and we could put up about a dozen people including kids. Lake Andy was full of Kokanee trout and they were limitless and very tasty when smoked. I loved Adak and would have liked to stay longer but Navy calls. My oldest daughter graduated high school at Adak. My 4 kids and there friends were all over the island. I also have trouble believing that the military would have left all the charts, maps and other documents behind to get ruined. It was a interesting show but it was sure a bunch of crap.

  5. If anyone found good while digging off red bluff, I don’t they’d report it, probably just pocketed it which would explain the crushed cans and no gold

  6. Right .. the military in this day and age isn’t held accountable for all the UFOs and contaminated soil and groundwater…I get it if they abandoned the site in 1950 but not in 1997.

  7. I was stationed at Adak communication station at Clam Lagoon at 1957-1958. When the earthquake hit
It was a 9 on the Richter scale
I never heard of even a hint of gold the time I was there—we stomped over the tundra by Lake Andy. &
    Surrounding hills weather permitting!!!

  8. I was stationed on Adak from 66 to 67. I don’t remember 99% of what they show. I know alot can change in all that time, but this is ridiculous. Being a seabee I worked all around the air base, and surrounding area.

  9. We were there in the 80s and I had never heard of the treasure. Still fun to see the island again, although it’s really sad to see everything falling apart. It was a great place when we lived there. Some of the places that are “so dangerous” in the show really aren’t. We used to wander all over the place as kids.

  10. thanks for info, I agree it was dramatized special when the found a coin under the stone that was so shiny and nice like it would have come from a museum,

  11. Ugh – too acted – and poorly at that. The first discovery being the carved stone – how Dr. M found it is too unbelievable. They knew the show was too boring and had to try hard to add drama throughout. I totally called it that they would find something worthwhile in the final episode – they had to in order to potentially continue after thaw next season (if there is a next season *yawn)

  12. Thom: sure you can demolish that house and dig up the foundations.

Also Thom: Sorry no, you can’t cross that tiny little gate leading to all the gold.

I’m calling this a mockumentary – and completely made up by Netflix trying to take Discovery’s crown of Mockumentary Makers.
