There is a whole gamut of shows detailing the positive and negative aspects of the government and what it undertakes to run a country as diverse and vast as America. Comedian and writer Adam Conover, best known for Adam Ruins Everything, takes a look at the more unsung heroes of the government and the various situations that the government gets right while also taking a dip into the flip sides of said situations.
It is very natural for the general population to look at anything that the government does and glare at the flaws and although, yes, the flaws do matter (and something matters a lot), there are other things at play here that encompasses a huge number of officials who helm these decisions. Unlike most shows about the government out there, what makes this show interesting is the fact that it showcases both the positive and negative sides of the issue. With 6 episodes titled Food, Weather, Money, Future, Disease and Change respectively, the series gives a rather balanced take on our favourite punching bag.
Although we love to think back to a time when the world was a better place, if you really put your mind to it, you will be able to see how, in fact, the past wasn’t really the best. For example, in one of the episodes of The G Word With Adam Conover, we learn how the US government and its officials have worked to eradicate malaria and polio. If you look back a few years, there were hundreds and thousands of people dying every year thanks to these diseases. The same thing for groceries – a few years ago, you would’ve probably found poison in your sausages!
But, that’s not the case anymore. There are hundreds of ways in which the government has taken steps to combat several disastrous issues that could’ve made the quality of life of the average American horrendous. But, it didn’t. Of course, there’s always a scope for improvement and the series tackles the ways and whether it is even possible as well. On the flip side, The G Word With Adam Conover also focuses on how the US government has done a rather preposterous job at tackling COVID-19 and how their policies are trying to block out and undermine important discussions around the drastic changes in weather.
There’s always a good and bad side to anything – everything is a work in progress. The G Word With Adam Conover gives a very interesting take on the two sides of some very important coins and reminds us that we might take our government for granted sometimes. Yes, as I mentioned previously, there are many scopes of improvement and you should always hold them accountable and responsible, but we also need to be glad for all that the government does for us that make our lives easier and safer.
