Kartavya Ending Explained
What was the Main Conspiracy?
Throughout the film, we are given the notion that something is amiss with respected godman Anand Shri that is related to child trafficking. The first scene showcases a journalist out to expose Anand being murdered under Pawan’s supervision, and it creates a chain reaction that ends in bloodshed.
In the end, Pawan figures out that the trafficking network is run by Anand Shri in the guise of religion, wherein he uses childless couples’ desperation and takes away their children to be used for his dirty deeds. In the present scenario, he took 16-year-old Harpal under his care 6 years ago and then brutally abused him to make him compliant and make him murder the journalist. The promise was that he would release Harpal to his parents if he agreed, but the catch is that after these children comply with Anand Shri’s request, they would eventually be murdered.

It’s a story that brings forth institutional corruption and how the police are in on the betrayal that results in innocent children being abused and murdered. Pawan is shocked to learn about this and eventually decides to take matters into his own hands.
Why was Vijay Forced to Choose Between Family and Duty?
When Vijay realises the truth about Harpal’s situation, he immediately tries to figure out a way to save the child. At first, he was going to use his confession to nab the guilty, but he realised that he wouldn’t be able to guarantee Harpal’s safety. That’s why he made a compromise with Keshav – he agreed to keep Anand Shri’s name out of it if Harpal would not be harmed.

However, when everyone, including Ashok, betrays him, and Harpal is killed, he is forced to set his family’s safety aside and choose his duty of protecting innocents and takes matters into his own hands.
What Happens in the Final Confrontation?
In the final confrontation in Kartavya, an enraged Pawan, having had enough with the corruption around him, kills Ashok for betraying him and killing Harpal and his own father for giving in to superstition and killing his brother. In the end, he finally undoes his wrong and files Harpal’s confession to the court, putting Anand Shri and Keshav in a vulnerable position. But, we don’t know whether they will pay for their crimes or if this will be brushed under the rug.

Does Vijay Save His Family?
It’s unclear whether Vijay will save his family since, after committing the murders, he will be facing consequences. With Ashok and his father’s death, those who want to keep the ongoing systems in place will try to make Pawan pay for trying to stray from the norm. The last scene showcases a heartbroken Pawan embracing his wife and son, possibly knowing that the problems only start from here – it’s going to be an uphill battle.
