Dasvi Review: Plot Summary
Gangaram Chaudhary (Abhishek) is the Chief Minister of a state called Harith Pradesh in India. However, he’s been sent to prison due to the various scams in the past. Chaudhary tells his wife Bimla Devi (Nimrat) that she has to be the CM until he comes out of jail. But prison life becomes a big challenge for Chaudhary, especially when a strict superintendent enters the picture.
Inside the prison, Gangaram Chaudhary decides to complete his dasvi, aka tenth. He studies hard using the prison library. He takes an oath that he won’t become a CM again if he doesn’t pass the exam. There are people in his life to don’t want to him move ahead in life. Some of these are the people closest to him. So how will Ganga manage complete his tenth? Will he ever come out of prison and become a CM again? We find it out in those 2 hours.
Netflix’s Dasvi Review: Discussion
In the opening scene of the Netflix film Dasvi, CM Gangaram Chaudhary is shooting a fitness challenge video. He challenges PMs and Presidents of other countries. That amusing opening sequence teases us that Chaudhary is not the typical, straight-faced CM. But, he is full of himself as one expects a politician of this stature to be. For the first 30 minutes, the build-up is quite exciting and funny.
However, when Chaudhary enters the prison, the pace slows down. We also have scenes where his wife Bimla Devi acts as the CM instead of him. So for some time, you are confused about where the plot is heading. Even if time passes and characters are getting used to the new environment, the narrative appears stagnant. However, when Yami Gautam enters the picture and becomes a challenge for Ganga, the story again picks up the exciting pace.

The second half of Dasvi is packed with solid narrative, great humour and good pace. You root for Ganga by seeing his determination to pass the exams. Director Tushar Jalota has also shown us the interesting ways one can use to educate their kids. The way Jalota shows us the story of a man utilising his Right to Education is quite inspiring.
From history to maths to science, the movie is also a nostalgia trip for everyone who has given the 10th standard exam. To make it enjoyable, the makers have added song and dance numbers. After all, even if they intend to educate us, the entertainment factor is equally important. Thankfully, everything blends perfectly in the second half.
Dasvi wouldn’t have been hilarious and intriguing to watch if it wasn’t for Abhishek Bachchan’s phenomenal performance. From the first scene till the end, you are glued to the screen, watching him perform Gangaram with honesty and energy. Actress Nimrat Kaur has some hilarious scenes. Sometimes, she doesn’t even speak much, yet she makes you laugh out loud with her weird antics. Yami Gautam and the rest of the cast also play their part well.
Dasvi Review: Final Thoughts
Overall, Dasvi is here to remind us of the importance of education for everyone. The first half is a little off. But the second half provides you with great insight into how education should be valued more than just being used as a tool for getting a job. The film is impressive, and the amazing performances make it more fun to watch.
