This show loves dropping some last-minute shocks and surprises, and as we head into The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 9, the taste of the last one still lingers in our mouths. Let’s see how this got resolved in this review!

The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 9 Overview

The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 9 Title

The Case Study of Vanitas, or Vanitas no Carte in original Japanese, is a supernatural, historical, and vampire show based upon a manga written by Jun Mochizuki. It follows the human-vampire duo of Vanitas and Noe as they try to find out the perpetrator behind the recent impurity in the vampires’ hearts. This episode is also called Vanitas no Carte Season 2 Episode 9, The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2 Episode 9, and Vanitas no Carte Part 2 Episode 9.

This season of Vanitas is being brought to the medium of anime by Studio Bones, a giant behind classic anime shows such as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and My Hero Academia. The season is being directed by Tomoyuki Itamura, who also directed part 1 of the show, alongside several shows of the Monogatari series. Can we talk about how the previous episode implied that Dominique had died, and this episode started with her backstory? Why do shows and movies do this? This is becoming a trend with everything, and it is extremely stupid in every way. Once you see what happened to a character, what does it matter what their past was like? It’s not like their future is going to change, and we are probably not going to see much of them in the show anymore. Why then do you feel the need to explore their past as if your piece of media couldn’t have survived without it?

The most glaring offender of this is Demon Slayer, which insists on giving a full episode-long backstory to seemingly every demon that dies. They were demons, and they are dead now. Why is anyone supposed to care about them? Could you not have shown us this exploration into their pasts before the pivotal battle so that we know what they’re about before they got torn to pieces and not after? Is this also not why Black Widow failed as a movie? Maybe because it was just an unnecessary backstory to a character who was already long gone and who even Endgame forgot?

Anyway, Dom’s past was incredibly dark, but so is everyone’s in this show. No one was a happy child in this show, as the existence of a happy childhood seems to be deemed illegal by law. The offender behind what happened to Domi is also revealed, and it is again someone with a tragic backstory from a character’s past. The show very much has a formula now, and since it seems to work every time, it doesn’t feel the need to change things up. After all, if it ain’t broke, why fix it?

It delves into some exceptionally dark situations this time around, including Noe’s past alongside Vanitas’s, who has been extremely tight-lipped about anything related to his origin. It is safe to say that the glimpses we got were far more terrifying than we could have even imagined. Not only that, his past has inadvertently linked him to the new enemy of the show, and the situation is interesting, to say the least.

The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 9 was a good episode, but everything great about it lies behind the spoiler warning at the start. There were a few fantastic callbacks to the previous season, and it seems like interesting times lie ahead of us. The show is in a great spot right now, as it has moved on from the weird and uninteresting Beast of Gevaudan arc into where we are at right now. All it took was just one episode of pure comedy and slice of life in between, and the show has completely refreshed itself. Let’s see where the show heads from here, but the future looks promising.

Verdict

The Case Study Of Vanitas Season 2 Episode 9 was a great episode that progressed the story well and introduced some new ideas to the formula. Things are on the up and up for the show.
