Arifureta Season 2 Episode 8 Review- Back At Its Element

Captain fight Arifureta Season 2 Episode 8

Against all reasonable expectations of quality and taste, this is quite a popular show. There is a certain presence to it, an unexplainable charm that attracts a lot of people to it, this writer included. We might not everything the show puts out, but there is enough of it to love that people just don’t find anywhere else. Where else would you find an anime like this, where the odds of a human fighting a God is so heavily tilted in favour of the human?

This show has two distinct parts, both lying on different ends of the “wish-fulfilment” spectrum. On one end is the power fantasy. Seeing Hajime become the adonis with the herculean strength was a huge part of the first season’s success. While it does have the drawback of him never facing any real challenges and shooting his way through every conflict, there is some fun to be derived from watching him be a badass anime protagonist.

Hajime gang Arifureta Season 2 Episode 8

The other aspect is not as remotely interesting, however. His romantic escapades with busty girls with personalities that don’t go beyond “I love Hajime more than the other girls” is basic at its best and unbearable at its worst. It does help in grounding him, but only barely. They don’t have a lot of personality to them, mostly just being one emotion each. One could even assign them a sin from Dante’s inferno each, and the sin would perfectly describe them.

This past season has been mostly the second aspect, resulting in a lifeless and boring season so far. However, something interesting brewing underneath was a conspiracy involving the other isekai’d heroes, the king of the empire, his faith, and literal angels and demons making their way into the world from heaven and hell. Now you tell me which one sounds more interesting to you, this conspiracy or Hajime spending a weekend messing around with his four girlfriends?

We finally got started with the backstabbings (literal), kidnappings, and the other fun stuff that one anticipates from shows like this. The formula of commoners asking for Hajime’s help is becoming a little too stale by this late in the game, but it still worked well here. Arifureta Season 2 Episode 8 was a very fun episode that promised many interesting things in the show’s future, alongside a confrontation that was teased back in episode 1, and we are only seeing now. At last, it seems like the best part of the season is beginning, and here’s hoping that it does very well.

Verdict

Arifureta Season 2 Episode 8 was a great indicator of better things to come from this show. Hopefully, the next episode shifts the show’s direction to the correct one.
