My Dress-Up Darling Episode 7 Review: For Friends, Old and New

After encountering a new character in the previous episode, our journey through the cosplay world continues with My Dress-Up Darling Episode 7. Let’s get right to what happened in the episode!

My Dress-Up Darling Episode 7 Overview

My Dress-Up Darling Episode 7 Title

My Dress-Up Darling or Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi Wo Suru in original Japanese is a romance and slice of life anime based on a popular manga written series by Shinichi Fukuda. It is being adapted into the medium of anime by Studio CloverWorks, a studio that hasn’t exactly been having the best time of its existence right about now. The studio has faced immense criticism in just the previous year for how it handled two anime properties, Wonder Egg Priority and The Promised Neverland Season 2.

Keisuke Shinohara is directing the show. He has been directly involved in the productions of various anime series in the past, including Wonder Egg Priority and Devilman: Crybaby. Grandpa Gojo My Dress-Up Darling Episode 7

Did anyone think that what Dress-Up Darling was sorely lacking was a Tsundere? Juju is an interesting addition to the cast, as she stands out a lot and doesn’t really fit well with our two originals, Wakana and Marin. However, she hasn’t had much of a chance to interact with the pair, and the role she fulfils in the show is a necessary and fitting one. She acts like a cosplay mentor to Marin, who doesn’t know much about it despite her enthusiasm for the art.

Despite her being a new addition and requiring some time to herself to get her properly acquainted with the audience, the show doesn’t go that way in this episode. Instead, most of My Dress-Up Darling Episode 7 was spent with Marin and Wakana again as they spent the day together in Marin’s house. Not that anyone is complaining that this happened, since the dynamic between the two is lovely, and their relationship is in an extremely precious moment right now. Marin is adorable in recognising her crush on Gojo, and his obliviousness to everything is really cute.

However, it does run the risk of going the “dumb protagonist” way if this ends up going for too long. Too many times have we spent entire seasons and shows waiting for an MC to realise that someone has feelings for them, and it seldom ends up being good. It would be in the show’s best interests to not take the story into that avenue, as that would be and for Gojo’s character, alongside being horrible for the effort placed in the relationship between him and Marin.

The scenes with Marin and Gojo in this episode feel a little redundant, as we have already been through most of what we learned in this episode. We knew Gojo was dedicated enough to finish several different forms of media for his craft and that Marin liked him and couldn’t cook well. Their scenes together were decent, but not a high point for the show. After already completing more than half of the series, it is time to move forward to better things instead of being stuck in the past. Also, the less said about more sexual stuff between 15-year-olds, the better.

Overall, this outing felt like a buffer episode between the major arcs of this season. There were a ton of slice of life moments that carried the episode and gave us a bunch of sweet moments to cherish. Juju seems like she is here to stay, and even though this episode didn’t do much with her, it did enough to retain the attention that she needs when her chance does come. There are a ton of avenues left to explore for us to be stuck in a place.

Verdict

My Dress-Up Darling Episode 7 was a fun little affair that didn’t contain much substance. It was a slice of life through and through, and it was a very good one at that.
