Three Songs for Benazir, an Afghan documentary film, is all set to release on Netflix. Directed by Elizabeth Mirzaei and Gulistan Mirzaei, the film is produced by Omar Mullick, Hamayoun Noori and Jamil Rezaei. It was premiered at the 2021 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and won Best Short Film Jury Prize.

Plot/Synopsis

The documentary film features Shaista and Benazir. The couple is newly married and lives in a camp for displaced people in Kabul. Shaista struggles to manage his ambitions of being the first from his tribe to join the Afghan National Army with the responsibilities of having a family. Even if Shaista’s love for Benazir is evident, the decisions he must make to build a life with her have far-reaching implications.

The synopsis reads, “Newly married and living in a displacement camp, an Afghan man struggles to balance his dream of joining the national army with family responsibilities.”

The docufilm short has won numerous awards. The awards include – Full Frame Documentary Film Festival (Jury Award for Best Short), Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival (Award of Excellence), Odense Film Festival (Soapbox Award), the Middle East Now (OFF Cinema 2021 Award), Message to Man International Film Festival (Jury Award for Best Short), and many more.

Release Date

On Monday, Three Songs for Benazir is scheduled to release on Netflix on January 24, 2022. It will stream at 1:30 pm IST, 12 am PT 3 am ET.
