Loved Netflix’s The Wasteland? Check Out These Spanish Horror Movies Too!

Spanish horror movies have always been different from the usual Hollywood films. The terror caused in the story is not always by a demonic creature. The makers often depict the reality in an unsettling manner. Netflix’s latest The Wasteland, aka El Páramo, shows us what war, fear and isolation can do to people. David Casademunt has directed the Netflix film which stars Inma Cuesta and Asier Flores.

The Wasteland leaves an impression with its great storytelling, performance and creepiness. We have shared a few Spanish Horror Movies of the last few years that are equally good.

Check out the 3 Spanish Horror Movies You Must Watch ASAP:

Veronica

Verónica is a 2017 Spanish horror film directed by Paco Plaza and stars Sandra Escacena. Based on a real incident, the story is set in 1991 when Veronica and her school friends use the ouija board to call the dead souls. Veronica calls her father, but things go awry. She and her family had to face the deadly consequences. When the film was released, many called it one of the scariest Spanish movies ever made.

Watch the film on Netflix.

The Platform

In The Platform movie, people are kept in a large tower with many levels of platforms.  Two individuals are kept together in each cell. Every day, they are served a tremendous quantity of delicious food at a large table that runs from the first to the last level. However, no one knows how many levels there are or whether there is adequate food. That is the film’s unsettling element. We see how greedy humans can get even in the worst situation.

Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, the 2019 film stars Iván Massagué, Alexandra Masangkay and Zorion Eguileor. It’s not a horror film with any monster, yet very scary. The film is streaming on Netflix.

The Whisper Man on Netflix is a crime thriller based on Alex North’s bestseller, The Whisper Man follows a widowed father, Tom Kennedy, who moves to Featherbank with his son Jake after the death of his wife, Rebecca. Directed by James Ashcroft, the story unwraps to bring into light the legacy of a serial-killer.
