MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 33 Review: Choice Is Yours

The eliminated contestants get another chance to prove themselves to be back in the competition. In MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 33, the returnees have to give their best in the Mystery Box Challenge. The makers of the top 4 dishes will get another chance in the next episode, and one of them will be back just like Minoli to be in Top 15.

MasterChef Australia Season 13 judges have given a good twist to the Mystery Box Challenge for the returnees. They give the contestants a choice to select one box from the clear box and the covered box. The clear box has only four ingredients – Moreton Bay bugs, Fennel, Walnuts and Jicama. So the judges ask the cooks to make a quick decision if they want to play safe and cook with what can be seen or get surprised by the covered box.

Three contestants from MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 33 choose the clear box – Maja, Jess and Katrina. When the remaining contestants lift the covered Mystery Box, their happiness has no bounds. There are eight ingredients under the covered box – Duck Maryland, Pomegranate, Macadamias, Prawns, Chives, Goat’s Yoghurt, Parsnip and Black Garlic.

The MasterChef Australia Season 13 contestants get 75 minutes to cook a delicious dish using one or more ingredient from the box they’ve chosen. They get access to under bench staples. The cooks who show enough confidence in their cook during the challenge are Eric, Maja, Tom, Conor, and Wynona. Therese tries to make a duck fat ice cream, but her ice cream becomes grainy. Trent wants to redeem himself by making a tart which led to his elimination. But yet again, he fails.

Everything goes well for Wynona, but her duck ends up getting overcook. But without losing her mind, she decides to change her dish quickly and uses prawns. Her scrumptious Pomegranate glazed Prawns with Parsnip Purée, Roasted Black Garlic, Macadamia Crumb and Prawn Butter make the judges super happy. Maja’s Moreton Bay Bug with Brown Butter Emulsion and Roasted Fennel Purée is packed with different likeable flavours.

Eric serves a feast to the MasterChef Australia Season 13 judges with Shanghai-style Spring Onion pancakes, Black Garlic Prawns, Rolled Chive Omelette and Chive Vinegar. Jock almost scares the sh*t out of him by giving feedback that sounded like a disappointing dish but ended with ‘EPIC’. Contestants’ favourite Tombot aka Tom’s Black Garlic Canelé, Goat Milk Yoghurt and Pomegranate Ripple Ice Cream and Macadamia Crumb also receives lots of praises.

Thanks to their tasty dishes, Eric, Wynona, Maja and Tom make it to the next challenge. Whoever wins in the next episode will be back to the competition.
